Minor Town League Rd. 1:
Kerins O’Rahillys 0-08 Austin Stacks 3-8
Our Minors got their season off to a winning start with a good performance over Kerins O’Rahillys in round 1 of the Town League played in Strand Road on this Sunday afternoon (3rd Feb). Even though it was their first outing both sides played extremely well despite the heavy conditions.
We had the better of the first half exchanges and lead by 0-5 to 0-3 at half time with all our five scores coming from play and from five different players – Kyle Fitzgibbon (47 seconds), James Galvin (10m), Eoghan McKivergan (19m), Eamon McAllen (23m) and Greg Horan (30m).
Rahillys dominated the opening period of the second half and, with four points to our one (a 35th minute pointed free by Kyle Fitzgibbon), lead by 0-7 to 0-6 after 47minutes.
Then in 50th minute an excellent move by our lads saw Sean Ryan put James Galvin through. James’ low shot could only be parried by the keeper and substitute, Sean Dukes showed great alertness to latch on to the breaking ball for his first score and goal at minor level.
After that it was all the Rock with Greg Horan coming into his own with a pointed free followed by two more super goals by the centre forward. Joseph O’Kelly, who gave a very solid performance at centre back, put over the last score of the game as full time approached.
Five of the 19 who played were making their minor debuts – Jack Kenny who started and our four subs, Colin Griffin, Sean Dukes, Jessie O’Sullivan and Sam Nealon and all five looked very impressive.
So a very good start to the season which will have pleased team mentors, Sean Power, Tim McMahon, Peter Williams and Joe Smith.

Round 2, against Ardfert, is scheduled to go ahead in Connolly Park on next Saturday (9th Feb) at 4pm.
Then on the following Saturday )16th Feb) we are away for our round 3 encounter against Na Gaeil/Ballymac.
