U14 Co. League Div. 1 Austin Stacks: 5-11; Dingle: 3-04
Our A’s overcame a brave Dingle side in conditions ideal for good football at Connolly Park last evening. Although, playing below the level of performances previously given, our boys at times, produced some superb passages of play. Michael O’Donnell, in particular, gave a demonstration of his wonderful talent by winning much possession and kicking 3 fine points in a splendid first half show. Also, fine goals from Sean Dukes and Calvin Foley ensured that we stayed in front. Our opponents, however, were in no mood to surrender and responded well to whatever Stacks threw at them. They had some excellent footballers in their side who posed a continuous threat to our defence. But for some great defending from the brilliant Rory Hill and team captain Colin Griffin, the half time score in Stacks favour, of 2-04 to 1-03 may have been altogether different. In the second half, Michael O’Donnell continued to exert his influence by adding a further goal and 2 points to his tally. Sean Dukes, consistent as ever, was also effective in winning a few 50/50 tackles which hurt the opposition. Dingle continued to pose a threat and it was not until Jack Morgan cracked a great shot to the net that the tide turned comfortably in our favour. Further points from Fergal Ryan and Sean Fitzmaurice and a goal from Sean Dukes sealed the match. Man of the Match: Michael O’Donnell.
