Under 14 County League Division 1: Austin Stacks 5-15: Legion 4-03
With Seán Dukes in scintillating form, Stacks outplayed a gallant Legion side in Killarney on Wednesday evening (April 13th). In scoring 3-2 in the first twenty minutes he constantly unnerved his opponents and inspired the rest of his team into producing some of their best football of the season in an outstanding first half display. Jack Morgan and Calvin Foley again showed their quality by dominating their rivals in the middle of the field and this allowed forwards Louis Ryle and Michael O’Donnell to exploit the opportunities presented for them. Stacks led at the break 3-09 to 2-02. Legion began the second half in a more determined fashion and scored two early goals. Some of their more prominent players tried hard to capitalise on some lethargic play from Stacks during this period. Luckily for Stacks their efforts did not produce enough scores. Eventually, our boys regained their composure, mainly, due to superb work from Dylan Hennebery, Rory Hill, Darren Bastible, Seán Fitzmaurice in defence, Jack Morgan in midfield and Colin Griffin, who, having moved to full forward, settled the team with a vital goal midway through the second half. From this point onwards Stacks were again in control of the game. The latter stages turned out to be a formality as Stacks ran out comfortable winners. The players can now be very proud of themselves having won their first 3 games in the league to-date. Team: Daniel Kinsella, Darren Bastible, Colin Griffin(1-0), Rory Hill, Seán Fitzmaurice, Cathal O’Reilly, Dylan Hennebery, Calvin Foley(0-4), Jack Morgan(0-3), Louis Ryle(1-2), Michael O’Donnell(0-2), Darragh Scanlon(0-1), Oisín Fitzgerald, Seán Dukes(3-2), Ferdia O’Brien(0-1). Subs used: Dylan Daly, Fergal Ryan, Conor Ó Nualláin, Anthony Lonergan and Philip Quilter. Réalta an Chluiche/Man-of-the-match: Seán Dukes.
