Austin Stacks 1-3 Glenflesk 1-5
The u13 girls lost narrowly to a strong Glenflesk team in the Div 1 U13 Co. Championship on Wednesday last. The Glenflesk girls put three points on the scoreboard within the first ten minutes as the Stacks girls were trying to come to terms with the pace of the Glenflesk forwards. It was Meabh Mc Kivergan who settled us into the game in the twelfth minute with a lovely point. The Stacks defence were under huge pressure for the remainder of the first half, with Karen o Brien in goals making a few vital saves. Caitriona Collins, Gemma o Connor and Aiveen Gavaghan were doing trojan work in the full back line. Just before half time, Caitriona Horgan won a great ball in the center and sent it into the forwards where Caoimhe Barry Walsh and Katie Aherne worked a few nice hand passes and Meabh Lynch eventually hit the roof of the net with a bullet of a shot. Amy Carmody, and Aisling Gutteridge tried hard against the physically stronger opposition and did well. The half time score was Glenflesk 1-4, Stacks 1-1. The second half was a much improved performance from the Stacks girls. Ellen o Connell and Emma Pierse worked hard clearing ball out of defence while Jenny Godley and Doireann Morgan penetrated well through the Glenflesk defense with Jenny kicking a nice point after ten minutes. Throughout the second half it was Stacks who had most of the possession but their shooting left them down. Caoimhe Barry Walsh converted a free in the closing minutes but unfortunately we had another few chances and we didn’t take them. Lauren Barrett and Deborah did well when introduced and Melanie Pierse was outstanding in defense. Final score: Stacks 1-3, Glenflesk 1-5.
