Austin Stacks 7-7 Listowel 3-5
Austin Stacks Girls continued their unbeaten start to the North Kerry U12s Division 1 League with another fantastic display of Gaelic football in Connolly Park on Sunday April 1st. An impressive 7-7 to 3-5 win against Listowel again highlighted the skill and talent that this fabulous group of Rockies have. Straight from the throw in our midfield pairing of Orla O’Reilly and the incredibly talented Rachel Ryan placed a stranglehold on midfield that Listowel could not break and in the process created a number of early chances for our fleet footed forwards. Centre half forward Mollie O’Carroll was on fire and scored an impressive 3-2 within the first ten minutes. Other great scores from Hannah Lennihan and a magnificent goal from Rachel Ryan saw Austin Stacks take a commanding lead. Our star full forward Sarah Hoare showed great vision bringing our other forwards into play and Mary Duggan, Lucy O’Carroll and Ciara Ryan showed some great touches, in the early stages. The strength of depth of our squad was shown when we made a number of changes and the efforts on the training pitch paid off with some real confidence gaining performances from Evelyn Hayes,Ciara Moynihan,Jenny Fox, Ciara Lynch and the impressive Jasmine Ryle who scored a beautiful point under pressure. As Listowel grew in confidence and came more into the match our defence was put under siege a number of times. Our new goal keeper Chloe Dillan was coolness personified and ahead of her Avril Fitzgerald again put in a massive performance that the former Austin Stack legend John O’Keefe would have been proud of, she was again aided by the commanding presence of Meabh Pierce and the fire and passion that oozes out of every pore of Meabh McElligot. Around them Emma Reidy Laura Devane and the dynamic Niamh Ryan put everything on the line to stem the rising Listowel tide. As the match entered its final quarter Stacks regained control and Mary Duggan gave a performance that highlight why she is one of five girls in this team that has already had the honour of wearing the coveted Green and Gold of Kerry. Another goal and a great point on the run from star forward Mollie O’Carroll saw us finish as we started. Again many thanks to our trainers and mentors for all their time and efforts.
