U12 North Kerry Div. 1 Final
Austin Stacks 5-2 Corca Dhuibhne 1-4
Lat Saturday evening (April 14th) at Ballyrickard Austin Stacks and Corca Dhuibhne met in the North Kerry U12 Ladies Div. 1 final. These two teams met two weeks ago in the league in a thrilling drawn game. Once again the spectators were treated to a pulsating encounter, with all the girls putting on a display of football far beyond their years. The team was captained by Mollie O’Carroll with Sarah Fitzgerald as vice captain. Sarah in her first game in goal had a great game with some great stops and some brilliant catching under pressure, Clodagh Begley got the game off to a great start, pouncing on a mistake by Corca Dhuibhne to get the ball in the back of the net in the first two minutes, this was shortly followed by a goal and a point from Sarah Hoare who attacked the goal at every opportunity, the first half was very much Stacks half with any balls put forward by Corca Dhuibhne rarely passing by Laura Devane, Meabh McKelligot or Maebh Pierse, who was catching the ball so high we thought she was wearing stilts! The goal of the game came from Hannah Lenihan who smacked the ball into the back of the net from a very acute angle. With Stacks having a commanding lead at half time, as in the last game, the mentors knew Corca Dhuibhne would be coming back strong and so was the case, our defence was put under fierce pressure, but Megan O’Donnell and Niamh Ryan had an outstanding game and held out well, when the ball did get past them of course there was Avril Fitzgerald to pick up the pieces. Mary Duggan, Rachel Ryan and Orla O’Reilly put on a fantastic display of football skills that would make a lot of older girls jealous. One of two goals scored by Mollie O’Carroll showed some great footwork, with a fantastic run with the ball at her feet. Not all the girls have been mentioned here, but every girl on the panel deserves to know the Stacks club is proud of every one of you! After the game the 1st Division shield was presented to Mollie who bravely made a short speech, this was followed by team trainer, John Walsh who mentioned when he started with the girls that Corca Dhuibhne were the team we looked up to and wanted to be as good as!
