TOMMY Mc LOUGHLIN who died on Sunday, 20th February 2000 – 20 years ago on this day – gave outstanding service to the Rock Club. Born in Urban Terrace in the heart of the Rock he played Club football during the last 40s and early 50s and afterwards held positions on the Club Executive for many years, including Club Secretary and was one of the Club’s Vice Presidents at the time of his death. Outside of the Club some of his other sporting interests included Greyhound Racing, Golf and Swimming.
He took great pride in the sporting achievements of all his family who were also outstanding members of the Club. His sons Damien, Tony and Colm all played with the Club and at the time of his Dad’s death Damien was part of the Senior Footballers Management team – along with Brian Neenan and Frank Courtney.
Tommy’s daughter Dell (Whyte) won everything that the game could offer in her time. As well as Co. Championship medals with the Rock she is also the holder of seven All Ireland SF Medals with Kerry. Her sister Aileen also played with Club and County in her day.
Tommy’s grandson (Tom) was also a great Club Footballer in recent years and of course his daughter-in-law, Adrienne, is currently providing outstanding service to the Club covering all aspects of Club activity – Juveniles, Ladies and Men’s games as well as Social events – through her excellent photography which has made the Club’s Website and Facebook one of the most visited media outlets in the GAA.
