AUSTIN STACKS 1-7 KERINS O’RAHILLY’S 0-10
KERRY O’SHEA REPORTS
AUSTIN Stacks and Kerins O’Rahilly’s were without their respective inter county contingent for Sunday’s opening Tralee Town Board Senior Football League tie.
However, both will be happy at having gained a point.
This was a useful exercise for the management of both sides, who will be using the Tralee Town Board league to unearth new talent for their respective county league and championship campaigns ahead.
New managers, Denis ‘Ogie’ Moran and William Kirby will be pleased with the form shown by the younger members on their sides.
Stacks will claim that they could have-and should have-won this tie. With three minutes to go, the home side were leading O’Rahilly’s by two points, but the County final runners-up finished strongly and two Declan Quill points ensured a share of the spoils and the local bragging rights.
Conditions were ideal when excellent match referee Peter Lyons got proceedings underway.
In a closely contested first-half, Stacks retired with a two-point interval lead, 1-4 to 0-5, the goal coming from the boot of impressive newcomer Gearoid McCann after 13 minutes.
Graham O’Connell, David Clifford, Wayne Guthrie and Mikey Collins had points for the Rockies, while Barry John Keane and Declan Quill (0-4) had first-half replies for the Blues.
Graham O’Connell, Seanie Power and Dara Long had second half points for the black and amber brigade while Barry John Keane, John O’Connor and the outstanding Declan Quill (0-3) replied with points for Strand Road.
Best for Stacks apart from those already named were; Seanie Power, John Dennis and TJ Hogan, while best for Strand Road were Barry John Keane, Ross O’Callaghan, Morgan O’Shea and Stephen Moriarty.
