Southern Gaels 2-11 Austin Stacks 3-2
The U14 girls travelled the long road to Caherciveen on Good Friday evening to take on Southern Gaels in the first round of the Division 1 Co. League.We got off to a lively start with a point from play by Ciara Corridon followed a minute later by another from the boot of Caitriona Horgan. S. Gaels responded with a goal after 9 minutes. Doireann Morgan and Meabh Mc Kivergan got to grips with the two strong inter county midfielders and made good runs forward with Meabh delivering a good ball to Ciara Corridon who hit the net on the tenth minute mark. S. Gaels came back with a goal followed by two more points before the end of the first half leaving the half time score S. Gaels 1-3, Stacks 1-2. The second half began with S. Gaels scoring an early goal putting the Stacks defence under pressure immediately. Karen o Brien who was playing very well in goals denied S.Gaels another chance of a goal within minutes. Caitriona Collins and Melanie Pierse dispossessed the opposition on several occasions while Caoimhe Barry Walsh and Ellen O Connell took a few hard knocks but cleared the ball well out of defence. The S. Gaels girls scored three more points before the ball was sent into Ciara Corridon by Ellen and she scored her second goal. Despite trogan work by Leanne Hanafin, Aoife Brick and Orla Casey, S. Gaels kicked two more points while we wasted numerous chances. In the final few minutes , Ciara Corridon made a great run inside which was well spotted by Meabh Lynch and scored a great goal to complete her hat trick. S. Gaels went on to score another point before the whistle leaving the final score Stacks3-2, S.Gaels2-11.We are in training for the Feile competition in two weeks time while we await the next round of the Co. League against Rathmore on May 12th. The U 13 girls will have some games coming up in preparation for the u13 Championship and the North Kerry League competitions.
Congratulations to Melanie Pierse who captained the Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn team to win the mini sevens schools competition in Killarney recently and Congratulations to all our girls who made their Confirmation recently also.
