JUNIOR C FOOTBALL:
John Mitchels 2-6 Austin Stacks 2-19.
Our C team made an excellent start to their Co. League campaign when they had thirteen points to spare at Boherbee on this Friday evening (11th May). Even though we were playing against a very strong cold wind in the first half we were 1-6 to 0-0 up at the end of the first quarter, our goal coming in the 12th minute when Don Quinn broke the ball into the path of Nicky O’Connell who volleyed to the net.We added seven more points (to 1-2 for Mitchels) before the break to leave us 1-13 to 1-2 at half time.
Taking our foot off the pedal, somewhat, in the second half we nonetheless still played well enough to outscore the opposition by 1-6 to 1-4.
Our second goal came on the stroke of fulltime when player-manager, Kevin O’Carroll (who had been on the pitch for only a few minutes) set up Don Quinn who blasted to the net.
So a very satisfying start with some brilliant individual displays but also some beautiful link-play with seven players getting on the score sheet and a super 1-8 from Nicky O’Connell. All our twenty one scores, bar one, came from play.
