U13 Co. Championship C Semi Final: FT Austin Stacks 4-6 Kerins O’Rahillys 1-1 (match report Niall Lucey)
So without three of our regulars, Jocelyn Cushen, Robyn McNamara and Juli Griffin (all of whom we hope will make it back for the Final), our girls did very well. The score line of 4-6 to 1-1 belied a strong performance by Kerins O’Rahillys, who just didn’t convert their chances, whereas our girls did. Amber Ryan at right half forward opened our account with an impressive point from play after five minutes, with Ellen Lucey scoring an excellent first goal. Chloe O’Sullivan, Penny Costello, Ellen Lucey and Maria Sami all chipped in great points from play before the end of the match, with Maria, Chloe and Ellen adding three more goals. Ashleigh Horan worked hard as she drifted out towards our midfield pairing of Eimear Dillane and Kara Kirby, who must be the fittest midfielders around! They were tireless as usual in winning and channeling ball to Maria and the other forwards. The half backs had a hard job with Claire and Emma Counihan marking and tracking two wing forwards that were mad for road, while Clodagh Moore held the middle of the half backs steady. Emily Flynn ruled the roost around the square while both Belle McDonagh and Chloe McMahon won every ball that came in their direction and cleaned out their opposite numbers. In fairness, the low scoring by KOR was due in the main by our tight defence! Our subs on the night, Amelie O’Sullivan (still an U10’s player!), Aine Gibbons, Emily Beqai, Sarah Charles and Aine Griffin all did brilliantly when they came on. The work ethic in the team tonight, was again fantastic and the coaches are very proud of the effort, win lose or draw.
We will play Na Gaeil in the Final this Tuesday Sept 28th at 6pm in a neutral venue.
