Austin Stacks 0-13 Ardfert 0-7
After a rather shaky start we eventually got to grips with this first round Co. Championship game played in drizzly conditions at Austin Stack Park on this Sunday (12th June) and won with six points to spare. Even though we got off to a great start with Kieran Donaghy pointing after fifteen seconds we only scored once more by the end of the first quarter while Ardfert had put over four (three frees). Our second point came from a Graham O’Connell free following a foul on Darragh Long. That in fact was our only score from a free, with all our other twelve coming from play.
In the second quarter we scores five points without reply from the opposition, with Darragh Long, Kieran Donaghy, Graham O’Connell (2) and corner back, Pa McCarthy on target.
This left us ahead by three at half time (0-7 to 0-4).
The second half was almost an exact replica of the first in that we scored just two points in that opening quarter (a beauty by Shane O’Callaghan in the 37th minute, and Darragh Long in the 44th) while Ardfert scored three to leave us ahead by two (0-9 to 0-7).
However we dominated the closing quarter scoring four points without reply by Graham O’Connell. Darragh Long, Darragh O’Brien (Jnr) and Paul O’Donoghue.
Five of the eighteen who played were making their Senior Club Championship debuts, Darragh O’Brien (keeper), Paul O’Donoghue, Shane O’Callaghan, Darragh O’Brien (forward) and St. John Hegarty.
It was also good to see TJ Hogan back in action again after a layoff through injury.

We travel to Killarney on the weekend after next to play Dr. Crokes in round 6 of the Co. League. Following the game the Austin Stacks Supporters gathered for a get together in the Club Bar at Connolly Park where a presentation was made to ‘Man of the Match’ – John Dennis.
