Minor Town League

In the 4th and final round of this season’s Town League (the 1st round was played over 5 months ago – on the 5th February) played at a sunny Connolly Park on this Wednesday evening (July 11th) we had a narrow one point win over Mitchels. They went ahead after just a minute’s play but then in the 3rd minute a high ball into the square by Ciaran O’Connell was punched to the net by Alan Duggan for the only goal of the game. And that was a lead we maintained for the rest of the game even though the Boherbue boys came within a point of us on three separate occassions.
Points by Ciaran O’Connell (6m), Kyle Fitzgibbon (9m free), Alan Duggan (21m) and Conor Jordan (31m) left ahead by that goal at half time 1-4 to 0-04.
Like the first half Mitchels were quick off the mark after the resumption with a point from play, but we, by the 34th minute, had gone four ahead with points by Danny Carroll and Kyle Fitzgibbon (free). By the end of the 3rd quarter Mitchels had reduced our lead again to two. They could have gone ahead a minute later but Paddy Fitzgibbon made a brilliant double save to keep us in front. Both sides then scored two each (our two from frees by Kyle) and as full time approached Mitchels pointed from a free to leave us just ahead by the minimum at the end. With our three wins out of four it is now likely that both sides will meet again in the final of the competition on a date to be fixed.

We all wish Eoghan Mc Kivergan a speedy recovery from an injury he picked up just before half time. And it was good to learn that Eamon Mc Allen’s injury (picked up while playing with the B team on Monday evening) is not as bad as first feared, even though it is likely to keep him out of action for a few weeks.
We now look forward to the Co. Championship which gets underway on next Tuesday evening (17th July) with a trip to Killarney to play Dr. Crokes. Throw in 7pm.
