MINOR FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 3-16; West Kerry 0-8.
With a three points win in the opening game of the Co. Championship against Mid Kerry (1-12 to 1-9) and the narrowest of defeats against East Kerry in round 2 (2-9 to 1-11) our Minors came good again on a shocking night – weather-wise – for football in Lispole on this Tuesday evening (1st August).
West Kerry opened the scoring inside the second minute but this was the one and only time that they were ahead in the game. We were four ahead at the end of the first quarter (0-5 to 0-1), and seven ahead at half time (0-10 to 0-3). We extended that lead to 14 pts at the end of the third quarter (2-14 to 0-6) and at the final whistle we had a 17 points winning margin, even though the official score-line had it at 3-15 to 0-8.
All the starting 15 and the three subs used played brilliantly. We now await news as to who we will meet in the knock-out quarter finals, which we understand will go ahead next week.
Team: Oliver Lata, James Fisher, Donnacha Horgan, Ciaran Kavanagh ,Sean Heaslip, Fionnan Ryan, Padraig O’Halloran, Ben Murphy, Daniel Kirby, Gavin Casey, Ronan Carroll (0-7 – 2f), Cormac Bastible, Ryan O’Driscoll (1-3), Paddy Lane (2-6 – 3f), Jack Barrett.
Subs used: Alex Tuohy (44m), Rory Lynch (48m), Tomás O’Connell (54m).
