Munster Intermediate Club Championship Quarter Final – Austin Stacks vs Burren Gaels

It was an early start on Sunday 1st October for Austin Stacks ladies who travelled in convoy by ferry from Tarbert to Killimer, Co. Clare. Throw in was 12pm in Kilrush, Co. Clare.
The game was played in testing conditions, with strong, swirling winds and some rain. The first half was evenly contested with the game being level on a number of occasions. A goal from Mollie O’Carroll put Austin Stacks ahead just before half time. HT score AS 1-5 Burren Gaels 0-6.
Burren Gaels came back in the second half and got a boost from an early penalty to put them 1-6 to 1-5 ahead. Both teams continued to battle throughout the second half. A goal from Marina Barry kept Austin Stacks within striking distance.Points from Megan O’Brien and Ellen O’Connell saw the game enter the final minutes with Burren Gaels leading by 2 points. However, a goal scored by Mollie O’ Carroll with minutes to go saw Austin Stacks win by 1 point. Much jubilation from the Stacks players and vocal travelling Stacks supporters and understandably disappointment for the Clare girls at being “pipped at the post.”
Our semi-final opponents next weekend are Kinsale, with the date, venue and time to be confirmed in due course.
