JUNIOR B FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks B 1-12; John Mitchels B 0-11.
This opening round of the Tralee/St, Brendans Junior B League played at a breezy Mitchels pitch on this Tuesday evening (11th July) saw both sides in command at different periods of the game.
We started well despite playing against the strong breeze and led by four points to three at the end of the first quarter, all four coming from play. Pa McCarthy was on target twice with one each by Noah Townsend and Conor Myers. Mitchels then took control, adding four points without replay as the half time approached to give then a three points lead (0-7 to 0-4). But in the closing two minutes of the half two more points from play by Pa McCarthy and a super goal by Gearóid Fitzgerald gave us a two points lead at half time (1-6 to 0-7).
Mitchels were still in the game at the end of the third quarter when they had scored a further three points to two by us (Conor Myers on target twice). We then dominated the final quarter scoring a further four points to just one for Mitchels. Donnacha Sayers was on target twice (one from play and one from a free) with Calvin Foley from play and a well-taken forty five by Conor Myers. After the match Noah Townsend was deservedly named the Celsius Menswear MOTM.
