North Kerry Intermediate Hurling Championship: Austin Stacks 2-1; Crotta O’Neills 4-10.
The first round of the North Kerry IH Championship went ahead in Connolly Park, in summer-like conditions, on this Wednesday evening (3rd May).
And it turned out to be one of those days – if anything could go wrong, it did go wrong. On a normal day, for example, we would have been four points up after just four minutes. We just weren’t at the races. Balls dropping short, balls coming off the post. And it wasn’t that Crotta were that much better than us. Most of us didn’t show up on the day. Very few could be satisfied with their performance, and if we had to name one person who wasn’t in that category it would have to be full back, Eoghan McKivergan who gave a solid display all through.
A Paul Daly pointed free in the 26th minute was our only score in the first half, while Crotta had 2-7 on the board at half time.
We did get into the game a little more in the second period with two opportunist goals from Terry Desmond and Paul Daly while Crotta added a further 2-3 to their tally.
It was good to see John Connelly back on the field of play for the first time this season.
