REGISTRATION ONLINE: The Club is encouraging members to register online as funds are badly needed due to the fact that many of our fundraising activities are at a stand still because of the lockdown. All of the membership options can be found on our website. Supporters of the Rock who don’t normally pay membership are being reached out to this year because of the circumstances we find ourselves in. Austin Stacks needs all its supporters to become members.
CLUB PRESIDENT: Brendan Dowling, who was Club Chairman for a four year period back in the late eighties (1986-1989) has completed 10 years as President and was unanimously re-elected at our recent AGM. He is as passionate as ever about the Rock and he is regularly in contact with members of the Club Executive with advice. Tadgh McMahon and Kerry O’Shea did a lovely piece about Brendan in the Centenary Book. Well worth reading again (go to Page 63).

FEBRUARY IN THE PAST: The third week in February (15th to 21st) saw our Senior Footballers take part on the only two occasions that they participated in an All Ireland SF Club Championship semi final. Both games took place in Portlaoise. The first time was in 1977 (20th Feb) when we had a good win over the home side (1-14 to 2-6) to qualify for the Final which we won less than a month later. The second time was in 2015 (15th Feb) and this time the Ulster champions, Slaughtneil defeated us by just one point (2-10 to 1-14).
Off the pitch our then Vice Chairperson, Mairead Fernane organized s very successful Photographic Exhibition in the Co. Library (20th Feb 2018) to bring a conclusion to an outstanding year of Centenary celebrations. In 2015 (21st Feb) Aoife Ní Choileáin – Uí Dhonnchú won the Kerry Scór Singing competition for the 4th time. In 2012 a former Club Camogie player of the late 1920s, Sister Jessica Doyle celebrated her 100th birthday (19th Feb).
The third week in February saw the deaths of four outstanding Club men. Jackie Ryan, a winner of six All Ireland SF medals with Kerry died in 1954 (17th Feb), Tommy McLoughlin passed away in 2000 (20th Feb), Timmy McMahon died in 2012 (19th Feb) and Seán Murphy died this time last year (18th Feb) at the great age of 98.

BEST OF LUCK: to Christy Enright on his recent retirement from his day-job as Assistant Manager with Kerry Colleges, formerly FÁS and AnCo. Christy was a valued Club member back in the day, especially with our Juvenile section where he mentored many teams as well as serving as Juvenile Chairman for a three year period (1994-1996).
