Senior Club Notes 11th April, 2023

April 11, 2023 By Martin Collins

PAUL LUCEY RUN; The Paul Lucey Run for the Rock is back again for 2023 and will take place on the May Bank holiday weekend, Monday 1st May 2023.  This year the run will be followed by a Family Fun day for adults and children of the club and wider community.  We are hoping to encourage as many kids, teenagers, parents, grandparents, friends and family members to get outdoors on Monday 1st May to run or walk 5km promoting health and positivity within the club and community and mark the start of summer.  The event will begin at the entrance to the Austin Stacks’ Clubhouse at Connolly Park at 11am and taking in the traditional enjoyable route up Caherslee and down the Skinny Mile section of the Greenway.  Registration now open on www.eventbrite.ie or on the morning 9.30am-10am.

THE SAFEGUARDING WORKSHOP will take place next Monday 17th April for all team mentors from 7 pm to 10 pm in the Clubhouse/Hall  Pre-booking is essential please email childrensofficer.austinstacks.kerry@gaa.ie  or text 086 1053300.

SENIOR FOOTBALL; Austin Stacks 1-13; Ballymac 3-13.

We suffered our third Co. League defeat in a row going down to a good Ballymac side on this EasterSaturday evening (8th April) in a breezy but dry Connolly Park. We had a good opening eight minutes and led by three points to one at that stage with a Michael O’Donnell free and two from play by Shane O’Callaghan. Three more points by the visitors by the 11th minute gave them a lead (0-4 to 0-3) which they never relinquished. They went on to score a further goal and five points for the remainder of the half while we added just four more – another Michael O’Donnell free, two more from play by Shane O’Callaghan and one from play by Shane Carroll. This left Ballymac ahead by five at the break (1-9 to 0-7).

Two more goals by Ballymac during the second half gave us a mountain to climb. They added four points to that tally while we put over six points during this period with our goal coming deep in added time from a well-taken Michael O’Gara penalty.

Team: Ben Quilter, Luke Chester, Niall Fitzmaurice, Eoghan Carroll, Dean Rusk, Barry Shanahan, Jack Murphy, Michael O’Gara (1-1 – pen goal), Colm Browne, Donagh McKivergan (0-2 frees), Michael O’Donnell 0-3 – two frees), Seán Quilter, Shane Carroll (0-1), Shane O’Callaghan (0-5), David Mannix (0-1).

Subs used: David Fitzmaurice (23m), Calvin Foley (37m), Luke Casey (37m), Shane Bastible (42m), Noah Townsend (56m).

After the game Shane O’Callaghan was awarded the Celsius Man of the Match Award.

Our next game is away to Kerins O’Rahillys in Round 4 in a fortnight’s time.

 B TEAM:  Austin Stacks 1-4; Moyvane 1-16.

Playing against the heavy rain and a strong wind in the first half we went in at half time trailing by 1-12 to 0-1, our only point coming with the opening score of the game in the second minute from Shane Bastible

We put on a far better show in the second half holding the opposition scoreless for the first 22 minutes while scoring 1-4 ourselves. Our three points came from frees – two by Conor Myers and one from Gearóid Sheehan all in the opening eleven minutes with our goal coming from Noah Townsend in the 15th minute.

However Moyvane got the final four points of the game in the closing ten minutes of that second half.

Andrew Morrissey has played in many positions for both Hurlers and Footballers down the years but we have no recollection of him playing in goals before. He conceded just one goal throughout the game and made one stunning save five minutes into the second half, as good, if not better, than the two goal saves made later that evening in Anfield by the Arsenal keeper, Aaron Ramsdale to deny Liverpool all three points at the end.

Team: Andrew Morrissey, John Murphy. Ruairí O’Connell, Seán Moynihan, Evan Foley, Luke Casey, Dean Scanlon, David Fitzmaurice, Joe Reidy, Pa McCarthy, Gearóid Sheehan (0-1 free), Greg Scanlon, Shane Bastible (0-1), Conor Myers (0-2 frees), Noah Townsend (1-0), .

Subs used: Enda Cahill (ht), Billy Stack (40m), Joey Kinsella (40m).

After the game John Murphy was awarded the Celsius Man of the Match Award.

We now travel to Finuge on the week-end after next for a round 4 game. Finuge top the League table at the  moment with two wins and a draw after their opening three rounds.

MINOR FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 5-20; An Ghaeltacht 0-5.

When these sides met in the earlier round of the competition last month the game ended in a draw. On last Monday night (3rd April) in Connolly Park our boys put on a massive display to end up winners with 10 goals to spare at the end.

We now play Laune Rangers in the Final which has been fixed for Fitzgerald Stadium  on Monday week (17th April) at 6.30pm. Rangers defeated Kenmare Shamrocks in the other semi final by 1-14 to 1-11 down in Kenmare.

Team: Steven Conway, James Fisher, Donnacha Horgan, Padraig O’Halloran, Seán Heaslip, Ben Murphy, Seán Óg Brosnan, Fionnan Ryan, Daniel Kirby (Capt), Gavin Casey, Thomas Deregee, Ronan Carroll, Ryan O’Driscoll, Paddy Lane, Cormac Bastible.

Subs used: Ciarán Kavanagh (ht), Alex Tuohy (38m), Oliver Lata (42m), Jack Barrett (50m), Jake O’Connor (52m).

C TEAM (Black): Our opening Co. League game, away to Fossa C, has now been refixed for this Wednesday evening (12th April) at 7.30pm.

C TEAM (Amber): Our opening Co. League game, away to Duagh last week-end did not go ahead due to an unplayable pitch in Duagh caused by the inclement weather. We await details for a re-fixture. In the meantime we have a round 2 game in Connolly Park on this coming Sunday afternoon(16th April) at 2pm against Scartaglin.

CLUB CARDS: Our Card sessions continue in the Clubhouse on Mondays and Thursdays with the starting time of 9pm sharp.

CLUB LOTTO: This week’s (10th April.) Jackpot worth €3,650 was not won. The numbers drawn were 9, 24, 29, 32. The €20 winners were John & Helen Rowan, Paddy Barry and Shane O’Callaghan, all c/o The Club; Tom Prendergast, c/o On Line; and Eileen Slattery, c/o Carmel O’Neill.
