Michael Carmody RIP
As Rockie supporters gathered to support our Senior teams on Saturday, all conversations swung inevitably to reminisce on the passing of club stalwart Mike Carmody earlier that day.
Whether simply by his smiling, humble, gentlemanly welcome to members and visitors – young or old – to Connolly Park, his key involvement with many of our hurling teams, as one of the founders of the Lee Strand competition or as a hardworking member of various field committees, Mike Carmody was a true Rockie, asking for nothing but selflessly doing much.
Mike’s coaching, advice and general work around the club benefitted generations of young players, particularly those who wielded the ash at all levels for the Black & Amber. But perhaps of even greater benefit to our club was his instilling of the Rockie history, traditions and virtues into his family, and Mike took great pride in seeing grandsons Marc and Jake ascend their way up through the playing ranks in recent years.
It was remarked by more than one spectator at yesterday’s matches that whatever pitch maintenance team our Lord has in operation up above, the reuniting of the Rockie trio of Dinny, Moss and Mike will now bring things to a higher level.
To our club colleagues Dex, Mike’s daughter-in-law Annette and to all the Carmody family, our club and members offer our sincere sympathy at this difficult time. Mike is most certainly your loss, but he is also unquestionably a loss to all of us in the land of the Black & Amber.
