Edel O’Sullivan RIP:
There is great sadness across the Rockie landscape since this weekend following the passing of Edel O’Sullivan, sister of our Senior players Brendan & Paul, and of our former Senior Ladies player Nicola. While it was well known that Edel had been battling a very serious illness for some time, the loss of someone so young has brought a heavy sadness over Austin Stacks, Valentia and the wider GAA community. Notwithstanding her illness, Edel remained an avid follower of her brothers’ Rockie adventures and tuned in on many a weekend afternoon and evening to follow our Senior team’s fortunes from afar. All involved with our senior team and across the club have been in awe of Edel’s inspiring courage in battling her illness and of her family’s immense love, care and dedication to their beloved daughter and sister throughout. The esteem that the O’Sullivan family is held in the GAA community was very evident in the phenomenal generosity shown for their fundraiser for Edel in 2022 and the family can very much count on that support being there in the coming days and times ahead. The O’Sullivan family have been brilliant supporters of our Senior team throughout our and their own highs & lows of recent years and all in the Austin Stacks club and community are thinking of them and of Edel’s partner Shane and their daughter Saoirse at this very difficult time. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a hanam dílis.
As a mark of respect to Edel and the O’Sullivan family, our Men’s county league game vs Templenoe and Ladies Donal Curtin cup game vs Killarney Legion were postponed.
