Eddie Barry RIP;
Austin Stacks Club mourns the passing of star hurler Eddie Barry
There was great sadness in our club when the news filtered through that our colleague and friend Eddie Barry had passed away peacefully after a short illness on Thursday, 14th August. The Barry family from Racecourse Road has a long association with Austin Stacks. Eddie and his brother John gave distinguished service to the Club on the field of play. The Barry brothers were dual players of football and hurling but, there is no doubt that hurling was Eddie’s first love. Eddie played minor hurling and football with The Rock in 1951 and 1952. He was a member of the football team which won the Tralee Town minor league in 1952 by defeating Kerins O Rahillys in the final. Eddie enjoyed a long and eventful senior hurling career with Austin Stacks which extended from 1952 to 1968. He made his senior hurling debut against Crotta in 1951 and how ironic it was that his last senior hurling game was also against Crotta in the 1968 county senior hurling championship final. Both Eddie and his brother John were members of that team which lost out in controversial circumstances, thus denying the Barry brothers the coveted county championship hurling medals which they richly deserved. Eddie continued to promote hurling in the Club and managed Austin Stacks hurling teams for many years after his retirement.
Eddie also gave distinguished service to Kerry hurling teams. He played minor hurling with the county in 1951 and 1952. He played with the Kerry Junior hurlers in 1957 and played senior hurling with Kerry in the national hurling league from 1956 to 1958. Eddie’s son John and daughter Breda also played football with the Club. Even though Eddie was busy in his career, initially in The Kerryman Newspaper and the Anchor Bar in Russell Street before setting up his very successful, Barry Packaging, he always remained a valued member of Austin Stacks and took great delight in its many successes until the full time whistle was blown to end his well lived life.
Austin Stacks extends it sincere sympathy to Eddie’s children Breda, John & Eamonn, his siblings John, Helen & Mary, his grandchildren Orlaith, Seán, Jane, Zoe & Nora, daughters-in-law Jenny & Sara, brothers-in-law Tom & John, sisters-in-law Liz & Eily, nephews, nieces, all the team at Barry Packaging, his neighbours, relatives and many friends. May the green sod rest lightly on his gentle soul.

Sympathy:
Sincere Sympathy is offered to the families of the following who died recently,
Ursula Griffin (née Bourke), Saint Brendan’s Park, Tralee, Kerry.
Michael O’Shea, Clahane, Ballyard, Tralee, Kerry.
Eddie Barry, Ard na Lí, Oakpark, Tralee, Co. Kerry.
Lisa Hunt, Knocknacrohy, Duagh, Kerry / Tralee, Kerry.
Donal Riordan, Shanballa, Knocknagree, Cork / Tralee, Kerry.
