Death of Tadgh McMahon , RIP
We were all saddened to learn of the passing of one of Austin Stacks most beloved sons, our Juvenile Club President, Tadgh Mc Mahon. Tadgh passed away on Friday 12th July following a short illness.
His links with the Austin Stacks Club can be traced right back to the early foundations of the club, starting with his grandfather, Ned Drummond, who composed the famous poem ‘the Boys from the Top of the Rock’. Tadgh was raised in no. 18 Urban Terrace and his love for Austin Stacks was greatly influenced by living next door to his uncles Paddy and Tadgh Drummond who were both prominent club players in both codes during the 1930’s and 1940s. Tadgh himself was also a club player in the 1950s and 1960s and continued to serve in many different club capacities right throughout his lifetime; as a juvenile club mentor, Senior Club Secretary, Senior Club Chairman and also as Club Registrar. Later, he along with Dinny O’Connor (RIP) and John O’Connell ran our club bingo nights for many years. Tadgh was heavily involved in the production of the ‘Stacks of News’ newsletter in the 1990s, our Club DVD ‘Street of Champions’ and also part of the editorial team which produced the ‘A Centenary History’ book to celebrate the club’s centenary year in 2017. In 2023 he became the Austin Stacks Juvenile Club President.
Tadgh along with his 2 great friends Denis ‘Dee’ Butcher O’Regan (RIP) and Jim Gannon never missed a club game and could always be depended on to be there on the terraces to support their team in the good days and the bad. A huge favourite around the club, we will miss him greatly.
To his wife Ann, daughter Elma (former Club Secretary and present LGFA Club Officer), his sons Sean, Bryan and Tim (current Club Coaching Officer), his grandchildren and extended family & friends we express our deepest sympathy. May Tadgh RIP.
