2024 Intermediate Club Championship Quarter Final:

Match Preview by Tommy Naughton
Austin Stacks will host Killarney Legion at Connolly Park on Sunday August 18th in the Intermediate Club Championship with a 4pm throw in time.
Stacks topped group A which saw them secure a home quarter final tie. They remian unbeaten after the three group games which started with a win against town rivals John Mitchels at the Kerins O’Rahillys grounds on a scoreline of 2-15 to 0-09. Game two was a very dull affair at home to An Ghaeltacht but it was another game undefeated as Stacks picked up a point when it finished 0-08 to 0-08. The final group game was away to Glenbeigh/Glencar where only a win would secure a home quarter final and after an explosive opening half ,the foundations were laid for a confortable win by 4-13 to 1-10.
Killarney Legion finished second in Group D behind group winners Glenflesk. The opening match saw Legion fall to Glenflesk by the narrowist of margins when the went down by 1-17 to 1-16. Game 2 was a must win match at home to Gneeveguilla and they madde no mstake on a 0-20 to 0-09 scoreline. Going into their final match Legion still needed a win to guarentee a place in the quarter finals when they traveled to Cahersiveen and defeated St Marys by 1-10 to 0-07. Killarney Legion have averaged 17 points (including two goals) while they have only concceded an average of 12 points (including 1 goal) through out the group stage. David O’Sullivan had been their top scorer do far with 0-17 while James O’Donoghue has 0-07 and Peter McCarthy has 1-04.
A lot has changed since the last time the two sides clashed in a championship match when back in 2021 they met in the group stages of the Senior Club Championship which Stacks won on a scoreline of 1-14 to 0-8 where Stacks had eight differnt scorers and Brendan Sullivan was the top scorer with 1-02.
Both sides were beaten semi finalist in last years Intermediate Championship and will be hoping they can get back to that stage again with a win on Sunday. Stacks go into the game as the bookies favourite and here’s hoping the Super Rockie Supporters come out in force to give the team the support they deserve and who knows we could all be back again the following week for a county semi final.
