U21 Football Championship Final;
Match report by Tim Slattery
Stacks twenty two year wait is over following a hard fought victory over St Brendans.
Stacks played with the wind in the first half and Jordan Kissane opened the scoring with a pointed free in the 3rd minute and Odhran Ferris did likewise within a minute.
Damien Hogan blasted to the net with a bullet of a shot in the 8th minute after good work by Paddy Lane and Sean Og Brosnan and St Brendan’s replied with a Tomas Kennedy point.
Paddy Lane had two points from play and sandwiched in between Darragh O’Sullivan replied from play.
Midway through the half Gary O’Riordan had a point from play only for Jordan Kissane to reply from a free to make it a three point game.
Stacks hit 1-1 without reply in the next five minutes courtesy of a Paddy Lane free and a Daniel Kirby goal after Conor Horan’s initial shot was parried by the goalkeeper Sean Brosnan.
Earnan Ferris from play and Jordan Kissane from a free traded points after twenty four minutes.
Stacks finished the stronger coming up to half time and added points from play from the boot of Conor Horan from a Jordan Kissane pass and Daniel Kirby after good work by Ben Murphy.
Half Time Austin Stacks 2-8 St Brendan’s 0-5
Ben Murphy from play and a Paddy Lane free after Daniel Kirby was fouled made it a nine point game after 2 minutes of the second half.Hard to believe but Stacks would not score again in the game playing into a strong wind.
St Brendan’s had four unanswered points between the 3rd and 17th minutes coming from a Darragh O’Sullivan free,Ciaran White and Fionan Egan from play,and another Darragh O’Sullivan to make it a seven point game.
Then in the 19th minute St Brendans were awarded a penalty but Odhran Ferris shot was brilliantly saved by Ben Quilter going down to his left and from the resultant 45 was kicked wide.
We went another eleven minutes before St Brendan’s with a Darragh O’Sullivan free leaving six points between the sides.
The board went up with seven minutes of injury time to be played and in that time Darragh O’Sullivan pointed two more frees to end the match.
Pat O’Sullivan presented the James Coffey Cup to Stacks winning Captain Conor Horan to the delight of the Rocky Supporters.

Death of Tommy “Bracker” O’Regan, RIP
As no doubt you are aware by now, of the sad news that Tommy “Bracker” O’Regan, passed away on Wednesday July 3rd, in his home, in Killarney.
It is intended that our Austin Stacks Club will provide a Guard of Honour for him, after his Memorial Mass, on this Saturday, 6th July, at 10:30am, in St Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney.
Tommy following on from his father Martin’s footsteps was always destined to wear the Black & Amber of Austin Stacks and in 1966 Tommy made his Senior debut against John Mitchels scoring three points in the process but unfortunately beaten on the day. Tommy lined out again from 1967 to 1972 but no luck on the field of play.
Then in 1973 the big breakthrough came Stacks beat John Mitchels Dr Crokes and Kenmare District in the semi-final. Stacks were back in the final for the first time since 1936.Stacks beat Na hAghasaigh in the final and were on top early on with a Ger Power special and in the 20th minute the second killer blow came when Tommy fisted to the net.
Tommy won his second County Championship medal in 1975 after beating Mid Kerry in the final after a replay. Tommy made 18 Championship appearances and scored 5-18 in total. Tommy also played Senior Hurling for Stacks who were beaten in 3 finals 68,69,74. He made 27 Appearances.
Tommy played Hurling for Kerry in the National League and Intermediate.
Tommy also played for the Kerry Junior Football team winning a Munster medal in 1968.
In 1970 he was top scorer for Kerry with
2-20.Tommy made 6 Appearances scoring 2-25 in total.
Austin Stacks Club provided a Guard of Honour for him, after his Memorial Mass, on Saturday July 6th in St Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney.
May the soil rest easy on you, Tommy “Bracker” O’Regan, a “Rockie” Black & Amber Legend, RIP .

Our Senior Men’s B team went down in their opening fixture in the 2024 Junior Town League against John Mitchels in Ballyseedy. Full Time Score ; John Mitchels B 3-8 (17) Austin Stacks B 1-11 (14)
2024 Intermediate Club Championship:
Austin Stacks have been drawn in Group A alongside Glenbeigh-Glencar, An Ghaeltacht & John Mitchels for the 2024 Intermediate Club Championship. The top two teams in each group will advance to the quarter Final stage.
Our opening fixture will be against John Mitchels at a neutral venue. If Kerry lose their All Ireland Football Semi Final on Saturday the Intermediate Championship will start on the weekend 27th/28th July , while if Kerry reach the All Ireland Final the Intermediate Championship will start the weekend 3rd/4th August.
CLUB LOTTO:
This week’s (8th July) Jackpot worth €3800 was not won.

Congratulations to our Senior Footballer Donagh McKivergan on passing out in Templemore last week. He will no doubt be a great addition to an Garda Siochána.
Kerry Senior Mens V Armagh:
Best of luck to Joe, Dylan, Armin, Joey, Paudie (Physio) and the Men’s Kerry Senior team when they take on Armagh in the All Ireland Semi Final at Croke Park on Saturday evening. The game will be shown live in the Austin Stacks GAA Club Bar
Kerry Senior Ladies v Meath :
Well down to Aoife, Darragh and the Kerry Senior Ladies team on their victory over Meath in the All Ireland Quarter Final last Saturday in Austin Stacks Park Tralee. Kerry will take on Armagh in two weeks time in the Semi Final.
