Minor Co. Championship Quarter Final

St. Brendans progressed to the semi final of the Co. Championship with two points to spare in Connolly Park on this Tuesday evening (7th Aug).
Making better use of the very heavy ground conditions they raced into a four points lead by the end of the first quarter. Our first points came in the 20th and 22nd minutes with Danny Carroll on target. Brendans added two more before half time but arguably the best score of the game came just on the 30th minute when corner back Seán Ryan progressed up field to put over a beauty. What another brilliant game he had. This left Brendans ahead by six points to three at half time.
Alan Duggan was introduced for the second half and his presence had an immediate impact.
In the first 8 minutes we continued to open up the Brendans defence and put over four great points from play to give us a lead for the first time – with two by Kyle Fitzgibbon and one each from Breandán Caball and Danny Carroll.
After Brendans equalized again within the minute we were back in front in the 43rd minute with another Danny Carroll point – his 4th of the game.
The visitors then too control again and in the space of four minutes put over four to restore their half time lead of three.
A pointed free by Kyle Fizgibbon in the 55th minute left us two in arrears again and with both sides tiring from the heavy conditions that was the last score of the game.
Great credit to the whole squad for some great games during the season and we know it will always be difficult trying to over come divisional sides when it comes to the closing rounds of the Championship.
