In Austin Stack Park on Monday last Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn had a hard-fought but well deserved victory over Scoil Mhuire na mBráithre, Cluain na Lobhar, in the Division 1 Primary Schools’ Final. Tralee’s Gaelscoil won the Roinn 1 Final for the first time in the school’s history, under the bainisteoireacht of Déaglán Ó Cuill (Kerins-O’Rahilly Club) and Colm Ó hAiniféin (Lios Póil). Seán Ó Muimhneacháin (Bainisteoir), Pat Costello and Donncha Ó Colmáin (P.O.) patrolled the line for the CBS. The Gaelscoil boys and girls were 4 points up at the break but their ability to sneak goals (buann cúil cluichí!) in the second half allowed them into a lead which they held until séideadh fada deireanach fheadóg an réiteora. It was a tough day for the CBS boys but they gave their all and kept trying until the end like true sportsmen! They got a good start and were 0-4 to 0-1 up early in the game and were looking strong until Gearóid Ó Síochain planked the leather into the CBS ‘keeper’s net! That goal gave the gaelscoil lads time to settle and gain in confidence and they forged ahead and never lost their lead! Pádraig Ó Luanaigh, captaen na Gaelscoile, proudly accepted the Victory Shield and made his speech in Irish!
