The Michael O’Connor Cup has found a home in The Kingdom with Austin Stacks defeating The Nire (Waterford) at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday 30th November. Final score: Austin Stacks 3-5 The Nire (Waterford) 2-4And what a day it proved to be for The Rockies. The winter sun shone on the travelling supporters that left Connolly Park on 10 buses and many carloads; food and refreshments were enjoyed at Cork Constitution Rugby Club; a Garda escort cleared the way ahead for the brilliant and vocal march to Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
The vocal support was excellent throughout the match, the tension and excitement throughout the game was mighty and at the final whistle the supporters swarmed onto the pitch to celebrate. Captain, Barry Shanahan accepted the Michael O’Connor Cup on behalf of the Austin Stacks team. I doubt if Pairc Ui Chaoimh ever had “The Conga” (led by Kevin Carroll)performed on its hallowed turf before…a day to remember! We can now look forward to an All-Ireland semifinal on 14th February against the Derry team, Slaughtneil. Bring it On!
