Match report by Paddy Barry
Our Senior B’s travelled to Kilcummin on Saturday to play Dr Crokes in the Final of the Molyneaux Cup.
On a perfect day for football we got off to a terrible start, conceding a goal in the first minute. We recovered well scoring two points from Sean Quilter and Sean og Brosnan. Then Gearoid Fitzgerald struck for a well worked goal.
We were going well at this stage with David Fitzmaurice and Luke Casey in control at midfield. Crokes came back a point against the run of play before Sean Quilter had another point from play.
Crokes hit a purple patch with 3 points before half tie to leave the half time score, Austin Stacks 1-03 Dr.Crokes 1-04.
The second half was a hard fought encounter with both teams scoring 6 points. Crokes opened with a point but we pulled two back to level the game with them coming from Sean Quilter and Damien Hogan. The Crokes scored again before Luke Casey added a point . Crokes came back again with a point before Sean Quilter and Adam Curran scored.
Once again Crokes came back to score and then Sean Quilter scored. This was to be our last score with Crokes adding two more to win by a single point.
This was a great effort by everyone from Ben in goals to all who togged. Our back line of Rory, Barry and Luke Chester kept the oppositionfull forwardline to 3 pointsfrom play. The half backs of Niall Fitzmaurice, Adam Curran and Eoghan Carroll defended well and attacked when allowed. David Fitzmaurice and Luke Casey dominated the middle. Our forwards made it difficult for the Crokes backs but unfortunately some missed chances did’nt help our cause. All in all it was an excellent performance by everyone.
