Glenbeigh Glencar v Austin Stacks
Venue; Glenbeigh
Throw-in; 2-00pm
Report by Tommy Naughton
.
Austin Stacks maintained their excellent start to the County league and have now four wins and a draw from their opening five matches after a very comfortable win away against a very disappointing Glenbeigh Glencar.
Stacks for the second game in a row opened their scoring account with a goal. A long ball from Greg Horan was tapped down by Brendan O’Sullivan to Gearoid Fitzgerald who rolled the ball past the advancing keeper.
Three more unanswered points followed from Paul O’Sullivan, a Conor Horan Free and Shane O’Callaghan before Glenbeigh Glencar raised the white flag from a free after 13 minutes.
The Rockies were to Score 1-05 over the next fifteen minutes and put the contest to bed even before half time. Points from Gearoid Fitzgerald, Colm Brown, a second of the game from Shane O’Callaghan and two points from corner back Colin Griffin all came from play before Stacks second goal of the game. From a Glenbeigh Glencar kickout the ball was intercepted and Shane O’Callaghan floated the ball over the back tracking keeper from 30 yards out .
Glenbeigh Glencar scored their first point from play a minute before half time which had Austin Stacks ahead by 12 points at the break.
Half Time; Glenbeigh Glencar 0-02 Austin Stacks 2-08
In previous years a lead like this could have seen the Stacks take their foot of the gas but not this time as they added another 1-15 to the scoreline in the second half.
Greg Horan kicked over in the first minute which was quickly followed by a third goal when Conor Myers beat the keeper at his near post . Glenbeigh Glencar kicked over two points in a row from a free and then from play but were to go another 15 minutes before the scored again.
Austin Stacks made a number of changes with the main standout change being the introduction of Sean Quilter who scored 10 points in the last twenty minutes which included four two pointers from open play.
The lead was now 3-10 to 0-04 when Quilter kicked his first scored and this was followed by another point from Gearoid Fitzgerald and then a first senior point from Sean og Brosnan. Austin Stacks introduced another member of the Casey family to Senior Football with Gavin coming on to make his first senior appearance.
Sean Quilter then kicked the first of his two pointers before Conor Myers added to his tally. It then became the Quilter show as in the next five minutes he kicked three two-pointers in a row.
Credit to Glenbeigh Glencar who never stopped trying as the register three points in the final five minutes but it really wasn’t their day with stacks finishing the scoring through Darragh O’Brien and another from Sean Quilter.
So Stacks sit top on Division 1 and will be delighted to put up such a huge score with everything apart from a single free coming from open play.
