Girls Academy: We played some challenge games V Legion last Sunday morning. Training again for U6,8 & 10 girls at 11am this Sunday in Caherslee.
U14 Girls Town League Semi Final: Our U14 Ladies team continued their impressive winning streak last Wednesday evening with a fine win against a very strong John Mitchells side. The home side started very brightly and immediately from the throw in Stacks found their goal under siege. On at least two occasions corner back Laura Devane saved certain goals with fantastic last gasp clearances. When Mitchells forwards finally breached our defence again superbly marshalled by Avril Fitzgerald, they scored their only score of the half. A fine goal that gave our keeper Chloe Dillon no chance.
With Meabh McElligot and Sarah Hoare winning the battle in midfield and with Mollie O’Carroll along with her sister Lucy O’Carroll picking out the runs of their fellow forwards, it was only a matter of time before Stacks responded and what a response it was. A pile driver from Sarah Hoare, her first of two goals was quickly followed up with another cracking goal from sharp shooter Clodagh Begley. Before points by Rachel Ryan and a great point on the run and from distance from midfield dynamo Meabh McElligot gave Stacks some breathing space with the teams going in at halftime, Stacks leading 2.2 to 1.0
The second half was a real nail biting experience as Mitchells exploited space and started to finish off the chances they were creating. Although they managed to score 4.3 in the second half our goal keeper Chloe Dillon pulled off some massive saves and in the end was one of our stars of the night. However, when we talk of stars both Megan O’Donnell and Mary Duggan again put in performances that wanted for nothing as they dominated the half back line and allowed our quick witted forwards to prosper and prosper they did.
Much has been said of our forward line and again on Wednesday they showed just how much talent they really have. Clodagh Begley racked up her second hatrick in two weeks with clinical finishing in front of goal and half forward Rachel Ryan scored a stunning goal to go along with three beautifully taken points. With Emma Reidy and Mollie O’Carroll constantly probing and creating opportunities for their teammates, Stacks held out for another well deserved victory over their local rivals. Again many thanks to both our supporters and mentors.
The U14 Town League Final takes place at 5pm this Saturday at John Mitchels V Kerins O’Rahillys or Na Gaeil – this will be our final game of the year.
