U14 Girls: Terry’s Butchers North Kerry U14 Div 1 Shield Final FT Austin Stacks 4-8 Abbeydorney 4-6
What a night under lights we had in Connolly Park last Wednesday as our U14 girls took to the pitch for the North Kerry U14 Division 1 Shield Final against a strong Abbeydorney side. The game began at a frantic pace, with Abbeydorney converting a penalty in the opening minutes to take an early lead.
But the Stacks girls showed great composure, settling into the game and going on a scoring run that turned the tide.
Abbeydorney struck again with a second penalty to keep things tight in a fiercely contested first half.
Half-time: Austin Stacks 3-5 | Abbeydorney 2-4
The second half was a cagier affair, with both defences stepping up and space hard to come by. But our girls battled gamely, showing incredible heart, and a will to win that has defined their season. They’ve had tough days this year, but their character and never-say-die attitude shone through once again.
Every player did themselves, their families, and the Austin Stacks club proud. Massive congratulations to both teams on a cracking game of football. As the referee rightly said after the final whistle — ladies football was the real winner tonight.
Thanks to the referee for his kind words, and thanks to the Abbeydorney team and management for another great game.
Finally, a huge thank you to John Breen for having the Nuns Field looking absolutely fantastic for tonight’s final. The pitch was in top condition and the lights were on well ahead of throw-in — just another example of John going above and beyond for Austin Stacks. (Report by Mike Dennehy). This match concluded our U14 2025 season. Sincere thanks to Robert, Pat, Mike, Martina and Sharon for looking after the team so well throughout.
