This week we will play a challenge game V KOR this Wednesday evening at 6pm. We are also looking forward to our End of Season trip to the Passage West Blitz – promises to be a great fun day out.

U14 Girls: We played a useful challenge game V John Mitchels last Monday evening. The North Kerry League is due to commence shortly and we have entered teams in Div 1 and Div 6. This is to ensure meaningful game time for all the panel. Note the Sandra Keane Tournament takes place on Saturday Sept 12th at John Mitchels GAA grounds.

Rd 4: FT Listowel Emmetts 4-11 (23) Austin Stacks 5-7 (22). We travelled to Listowel last Wed evening to take on Listowel Emmetts in the 3rd round of the county league. Maybe it was the effects of the solar eclipse, but we struggled to get into the game in the first half. Listowel dominated from early on and led by 0-2 to 2-6 at half time. As the light improved at the start of the 2nd half, so did our performance. We scored two early goals which brought us right back into the game. We out scored Listowel by 5-5 to 2-5 in the 2nd half but unfortunately lost out by a single point. Final score was Stacks 5-7 to Listowel 4-11. The girls can be extremely proud of their display considering the deficit at half time. The panel and scorers on the night were Sophie Ferriter, Ella O Sullivan, Eimear Kenny, Maria O’Connell, Lucy Carey, Shauna Quigley, Eve McEvoy, Mary Gibbons, (1-0), Aoibhinn Hennessy (2-0), Roisin Sheehy, Amelie O’Sullivan, (0-4), Ruth Dowling (0-2), Debora Foley, Malwina Jankowska, Sophie Pigott, Mya Dennehy (1-1), Ria Horgan (1-0),Chloe O’Halloran. The match was well refereed by Gary Kissane. We are at home to Legion in the final round this Wednesday, August 19th at 7.30pm (thanks to Sean for his report).

Minors: We wish to acknowledge and thank Siobhan and all Power Travel for their generous sponsorship of our upcoming Helen Dowling Memorial U18 Girls Football Blitz taking place on Saturday October 10th. Our Club President, Noreen Power, of Power Travel would of course have soldered with Helen in the early days of the Austin Stacks LGFA so it’s a lovely link to have Power Travel associated with this blitz and Helen’s Memory.

Senior Ladies: Intermediate Senior Ladies Co Championship FT Cromane 5-13 Austin Stacks 0-12. Cromane were full value for their win in this opening round game played in Glenbeigh last Sunday morning. Last year’s Junior All Ireland Club finalists set down a marker scoring 3 goals in the first half giving them the perfect foundation to build on and a lead which would be impossible to surmount HT Cromane 3-7 Stacks 0-5. The Stacks young side threw everything at it and were unlucky to see a couple of goal scoring opportunities narrowly missing the target. Instead it was the home side who struck again with two goals in the last quarter, one a penalty, to wrap this one up. Stacks will face Firies in Rd 2 in Connolly Park at 12 noon on Sunday Aug 23rd. Stacks team & scorers: Chloe Fitzpatrick, Aoife O Connell, Mary Moore, Lara Flynn, Grace Reidy, Deirdre Quigley, Eimear Dillane (0-2), Aoibhinn Hennessy, Grace Reidy, Kara Kirby, Aoife Dillane (0-1), Lucy O Connor (0-2), Holly O Brien, Jess Leen, Mollie O Carroll, Megan O Brien (0-7). Subs used Emily Flynn, Amelie O Sullivan (making her senior Championship debut) and Amber Ryan and Amy Jordan. We wish Lara Flynn a quick recovery to a facial injury received during a clash of heads in the game. Credit Glenbeigh GAA club for their excellent hosting of this game, providing a MC to announce the teams & the playing of the national anthem before the game, sadly not something usually associated with LGFA club games, a nice touch which certainly added to the Championship occasion for the players.

G4MO: Connolly Park was a hive of activity last Saturday with the Austin Stacks superbly organised Festival Blitz G4MO competition. Eight teams were participating – Austin Stacks; Abbeydorney; Ballyduff/Glenflesk; Abbeyfeale; Scartaglen; Laune Rangers; Spa Killarney and Moyvane/Knockanure. Matches were contested on 3 pitches, 15 minutes per game. Games were preceded by an entertaining and fun workout, there were games also at the interval, with hot food and refreshments on site. The trophy for Player of the Tournament was presented by Kayleigh Quirke (event organiser) to Gillian Lucid of Ballyduff/Glenflesk. Raffle tickets were sold during the day as a fundraiser for Kerry Hospice and prizes were presented in the clubhouse at the conclusion of the tournament. Thanks to referees for giving of their time and to all who donated the raffle prizes. We also wish to thank Anne Marie & Terry Healy of Terrys Butchers Shop main sponsor Austin Stacks LGFA for their sponsorship of all the meats for yesterday’s G4MO Festival Blitz BBQ in aid of Palliative Care. Thanks to Adrienne for her photography perfectly capturing all the “craic” at yesterday’s blitz– all photos can be viewed on the Austin Stacks Ladies Club Facebook page.
