COLÁISTÍ CHIARRAÍ – CORN UÍ SHÚILLEABHÁIN:
‘Well done’ to the boys of both The Green CBS and Mercy Mounthawk on providing an outstanding show of Gaelic football in the final of the U19 Corn Uí Shúilleabháin competition on Monday last (2nd) i bPáirc Aibhistín de Staic. A great contest was expected and delivered; and brilliant performances were given by both teams. Congratulations to the boys of Mounthawk on their great victory over their rivals, friends and (in several cases) club mates. Commiserations to the hard working, talented and ever-so-close CBS boys. It was an exciting encounter. Only two points separated the sides at the break (1-5 to 0-6). A good goal by Alex Touhy had put Mounthawk noses ahead and The Green were very unfortunate in not scoring a goal of their own. The Blue‘n’Gold boys started well in the second half but a Cormac Bastible 3-pointer put caidhp a’bháis on their efforts. However, the never-say-die CBS lads were back in the contest in the 51st minute when they shook The Hawkers’ net and the gap was down to just two points. Battle on! CBS motoring well! Their hopes high! But, then, a great effort for goal by Mounthawk’s Daniel Kirby was brilliantly saved and, sadly for The Green, the rebound was netted. B’shin é! Mounthawk received Corn Uí Shúilleabháin for the second time in its history. Áthas d’fhoireann an bhua agus briseadh croí do lucht na Faiche! Final score…Cnoc an tSeabhaic: 3-8; An Fhaiche: 1-9.
We look forward to the next meeting of these two outstanding sets of footballers! They’ll undoubtedly challenge each other in the Corn Uí Mhuirí competition in 2025. Will the result be reversed? Cá bhfios? Gach seans go mbeidh! Níl oiread na fríde eatarthu! And our club is honoured to have 14 players involved! The Rock lads: Fionnán Ryan (0-1), Ronan Carroll (0-1), Ryan O’Driscoll (0-5, 4fs), Seán Óg Brosnan, Donnacha Horgan, Olivier Lata (Meánscoil na mBráithre Críostaí); Paddy Lane (0-1), Cormac Bastible (1-0), James Fisher, Pádraig Ó hAllmharáin, Ben Murphy (0-2), Daniel Kirby (0-1), Alex Touhy (1-0), Gavin Ó Cathasaigh (Meánscoil na Trócaire).

OUR SENIORS IN MUNSTER FINAL:
Good luck to our seniors v Tipperary’s Eatharlach (Aherlow) on Saturday next in Mallow. The longed-for Munster final day is upon us. Excitement is building from the Top to the Bottom of The Rock….and far beyond! We dream! We hope! The Black‘n’Amber signs, flags and buntings are ar crochadh agus ar foluain in airde. Tickets have been booked and transport has been arranged. The road to Mallow will be busy on Saturday morning next. Sliabh Luachra cows won’t get a chance to cross the road for milking! Salmon and trout in the Blackwater will pause and wonder about the passing mid-morning honking horns! (The game will be at 1pm). Hordes of Gaelic football aficionados will travel from Tralee and from Aherlow and the followers of the Black‘n’Amber’ and the Green‘n’Gold (Eatharlach) will exemplify a truly sporting rivalry in the Mallow GAA pitch. A close exciting game is expected. Corn an AIB awaits the victors. We hope that ‘is mór an onóir dom an corn seo a ghlacadh….’ will be spoken loudly and clearly by our esteemed captain and will be heard over the fertile plains around Mallow. Our expectation is that all Rock fans will be smiling all the way to the banks of our own River Lee! Tugaimis tacaíocht dár laochra! Please travel with care, set-belted and within the speed limit….it’s the only way! Bon voyage.
BILLY’S BOYS: We dare to dream:
And once again we’ll travel out and hit for Mallow town
To see Greg Horan and his men fight for a Munster crown.
With Dylan, Joey and Jack Ó Sé in flying form again
Expect a forceful start, dear fans, when the leather is thrown in.
Now Colin, Armin and Valentia’s Paul will sweep Tipp forwards out
And Michael Tansley’ll mind his net and keep it ‘clean’ no doubt;
While Mike and Joe i lár an ghoirt with passion in their play
Will plank each sphere in Eatharlach’s ‘D’ for our forwards to make hay!
Then Brendan, Daniel and Donagh Mc with Fiachna, Paddy, Shane
Will hassle, harry and dive and bob and ‘hit’ like a Kerry train.
They’ll take their scores with fist and foot and with accuracy and skill
And Greg will lift the Bankers’ Cup (AIB) – for Rockies…what a thrill!
