Juvenile Notes 9ú Meitheamh ‘o9

June 9, 2009 By Brian Caball

UNDER 6 & 8 & 10: (i) After last weekend’s break to follow Kerry in Killarney, we look forward to the John Mitchel Club boys’ visit to Caherslee at 11am on this Sunday morning when matches at all three age levels will take place. The Yellow Road lads always play with a swagger and everyone should enjoy the morning’s action. (ii) Under 6 and Under 8 training/coaching will continue on Wednesdays at 6pm in the CBS (Primary) field in Cluain na Lobhar. Mórbhuíochas le Bainistíocht na Bunscoile. (iii) The Under 10 footballers can look forward to the Dr. Croke Club’s tournament on 20th June…an outing to which we eagerly look forward.

FAOI 8 & FAOI 10: 55 young hurlers enjoyed a great evening’s hurling in Cathair Sailí on Friday last. Medals were presented by Peter Twiss, Rúnaí an Chontae, to Rockmen Cian Sullivan, Nicholas Hussey, Matthew Hussey and Danny Drághici. THIS CO. BOARD INITIATIVE WILL CONTINUE ON 28th AUGUST….agus, mar sin, beidh sos ón iománaíocht ar feadh cúpla seachtain.

GET FIT: The “Get Fit for Sport” and “Planning for Success” sessions on Thursday last were very successful. Mórbhuíochas le “Coaching Ireland/Lucozade Sport”.

PEIL FAOI 12A & 12B: (i) A great outing was had by all who travelled by rail to the Kerry/Cork game on Sunday. Well done to organisers/bainisteoirí/minders. Bhain na daoine óga taithneamh mór as! (ii) The Rock A team has made a disappointing start to Phase 2 of the County League. We lost to Strand Road last week and were well beaten in Dingle this week. The lads have played some fine football in these matches and scored 3-8 in every game but unfortunately we also conceded 5 goals in each game and therein lies the problem. We can and will do better in the coming weeks. Tá ár lá ag teacht. Team: Cathal O’Reilly; Shane O’Donoghue, Jack Morgan, Darren Bastible; Dylan Hennebery, Colin Griffin, Rory Hill; Michael O’Donnell (captaen), Calvin Foley; Philip Quilter, Seán Fitzmaurice, Louis Ryle; Kieran Carmody, Seán Dukes, Oisín Fitzgerald; Fergal Ryan, Keelan Pierce, Jack Murray, Darragh Scanlon. (iii) This weekend’s fixture with Dr Crokes has been postponed until early July because some of the lads are going on the Holy Family School tour to France…bon voyage. (iv) Meanwhile, the Stacks B team plays in Listowel on this Thursday evening. All players, and parents who are available to provide transport, are asked to please be at Connolly Park for a 5.45pm departure on Thursday. Parents’ help is always appreciated. (v) Training continues for the Under 12s on Mondays and on Thursdays at 6pm in Caherslee. (vi) Finally, we congratulate Michael O’Donnell who fielded, kicked, passed and linked like a Kerry footballer in the Primary Game in Fitzgerald Stadium last Sunday…d’imir sé ar fheabhas. Wasn’t it great to see a Black’n’Amber boy proudly wearing the Gree’n’Gold on the green sward of Stáid a’Ghearaltaigh!

ACADAMH NA gCAILÍNÍ: (i) We had no training on Sunday at Cathair Sailí due to the match in Killarney and it was thrilling to see the Acadamh so well represented at the game. We hope that their teachers understood why these girls were a bit hoarse on Monday morning. An tAcadamh once again wishes the whole Kerry team and supporters a safe trip to Cork and we look forward to seeing Kerry in the Munster final v Luimneach! Good luck, also, to our hurlers who’ll play Carlow in Tralee in the Christy Ring semi-final…they could yet meet Down in the final. Training continues again this Sunday at Cathair Sailí with a throw-in time of 11am. Hope to see all our girls there on the day agus iad lán d’fhuinneamh agus lán de cheol agus lán de pheil! (ii) BIRTHDAYS: The Acadamh would like to wish a “breithlá sona” and a “happy birthday” to Leanne Hanafin who was eleven on Wednesday 10th June.

UNDER 14B: (i) Training for the B boys will take place with Dónal, John and Michael in Connolly Park on Wednesdays and on Fridays from 6pm to 7pm. On Friday last they

travelled to play Ballymacelligott in the Ballymac pitch where they were defeated by a full strength local side. An fhoireann: Craig Corcoran (cúl báire), Enda Jordan, Seán Ó Riain, Seán Hurley, Sam Nealon, John Nolan, Breandán Caball, Brian Hill, Timmy Ó Murchú, Dylan Hennebery,  Jack O’Donnell, David Walsh, Cian Ó Cathasaigh.

UNDER 14A: (i) Our Under 14A players are doing well on the Tralee District team. They had a good victory over Shannon Rangers in the quarter final: 6-13 to 8-11. They join Ciarraí Lár, Ciarraí Theas and Ciarraí Thiar in the semi-finals. Go n-éirí go geal leo! Our representatives on the Tralee team are Brian Horgan, Michael O’Donnell, Eoghan O’Carroll, Conor Jordan, Daragh O’Carroll, Shane Greensmith, Greg Horan, Joseph O’Kelly, Kyle Fitzgibbon. (ii) Training for our club A team will recommence on Monday next, June 15th, at 4.30pm in Connolly Park. Ag súil le slua maith ag an traenáil. (iii) We wish Tomas Ziga a speedy recovery from his recent broken hand. (iv) A great day out was enjoyed by all who travelled by train to the Kerry/Cork game on Sunday. Bhí an-lá acu uilig. Well done to organizers/bainisteoirí.

IOMÁNAÍOCHT FAOI 16/17/18: Hurling training will take place as usual at 5.30pm in Connolly Park on this Friday. All our hurlers are encouraged to go to Páirc Aibhistín de Staic on Saturday @ 2.30pm to cheer on our county hurlers. Beidh am breise má chríochnaíonn na foirne ar chomhscór.

PEIL FAOI 16: (i) The Under 16 lads will recommence training on Monday next, 15th June, in Connolly Park (at 4pm) in preparation for our County League opener v John Mitchels (roinn 1:babhta 1). This game will be played on Wednesday June 24th. (ii) County championship: Wednesday 19th August.

SENIORS: Good luck to our county senior Hurlers and Footballers who, we hope, will give us more exciting action this weekend. Two final to be reached! An Ríocht Abú!

QUIZ: Good luck to our representatives who’ll take part in the Gael-Linn Radio (RTÉ 1) Quiz in the RTÉ Cork studio on Wednesday next. Máirtín Ó Coileáin, Caitríona Ní Riain agus Seán Ó Flatharta a bheidh san iomaíocht ar son an chlub. Cathal Poirtéir (RTÉ) a bheidh mar mháistir na gceisteanna.
