Juvenile Notes 23ú Aibreán ‘o9

April 22, 2009 By Brian Caball

LATEST FIXTURE: Sunday 26th~ Under 12 A and B v Dr Crokes 6.30 (Away).

PEIL FAOI 6/8/10: We’ll travel out to Laune Rangers with all this group on Sunday next. Parents are respectfully requested to come to CONNOLLY PARK….yes, Páirc Uí Chonghaile….at 10am in order to transport kids to games. Willing drivers greatly appreciated…buíochas mór!

PEIL FAOI 12: (i) Training continues for this group on Mondays and on Thursdays at 6pm in Caherslee.

UNDER 12: (ii) On Tuesday our 2 Under 12 teams were in action in the County League in the Kerins~O’Rahilly Pitch. What a great joy to see our A and B teams…dhá fhoireann dheasa…taking on their first opposition in the 2oo9 County League. Buachaillí maithe iad seo!

(iii) On Sunday next they travel the 20 miles to play Na Crócaigh in DeerPark and, with the experience of the K~O’R A and B challenges in their system, are expected to give a good account of themselves! Am imeachta ó Pháirc Uí Chonghaile: c. 4.30pm. Go n~éirí leo!

CAMPA NA CÁSCA: Our Easter Camp for Under 8 and Under 10 boys and girls which took place in C.B.S.~The Green was a great success, particularly with the addition of more girls this year. On Friday we had the final with only the obstacle course separating the three outstandingly skilful teams. In the end Donncha Mac Iomhargáin lifted the David Lehane Cup and Conchúr Ó Mír lifted Corn Chaoimhín de Barra. Players of the tournaments were Ciarán O’Reilly, Seán Quilter and the brilliant Lauren Barrett. Timmy and his team were very satisfied with the week’s work. All the participants had a great time, had great fun and mighty craic!

ACADAMH NA gCAILÍNÍ: (i) We had asked for all the Academy girls to come to Cahersalee on Sunday 19th for our first registration day. WOW! What a response we had! A total of 89 girls turned up for training, With a few of our mentors missing we could have been a bit stretched but we were lucky enough to have extra help from Breda Slattery who we hope will be coming along every week. The girls split up into Under 6/8, Under 10 and Under 12 age groups and had fitness drills, games and matches. Pretty soon we might have to split the girls up into Under 7, 9 and 11 as well!  Watching the girls training, it was great to see the friendly competitive streak showing during the drills and matches with the younger girls not letting the older girls have it all their own way!

(ii) CLÁRÚ: This Sunday, 26th April, we will have our second registration day. Please, ensure that all girls have paid their fees and check that all details are correct. Once again let’s see all our girls at Cathair Sailí this Sunday. Is this the week of the century? 100 cailín? Surely a record for any GAA club!

(iii) MNÁ NA CARRAIGE: This Sunday saw the first session of the Active Mums’ programme which is being supported by Kerry Local Sports’ Partnership. 14 Rockie mums and friends…nearly a full f/ball team…participated in a conditioning session in the fitness suite in Connolly Park while the Under 6/8/10 & 12 players were being put through their paces across the road in Caherslee. In pairs the group members got stuck into a challenging circuit and made an energetic start to a six week programme which will include a range of physical activities aimed at improving fitness and general well being in preparation for the summer months. Squats, abdominal curls and medicine ball twists were all part of the session but much energy was also expended on laughter as the craic among the group raised the energy levels. Anyone else interested in joining the group will be most welcome. Níl le déanamh ach just contact Niamh Collins on 087 9029584 or niamhcollins@eircom.net and she will give you the details for next week. All sessions are designed to include a wide range of fitness levels. Ar aghaidh le Mná na Carraige!

(iv) BIRTHDAYS: The academy would like to wish a “breithlá sona” and a “happy birthday” to Sarah Hobbert who will be a lucky seven on Wednesday 29th and also to Lauren and Hannah Lenihan who will reach the magic age of nine on Monday 27th.

HURLING COACHING: Kerry hurler John Griffin is back in action this week ~ coaching the “Cluiche Sciliúil” in a couple of Tralee primary schools. We’ll be looking out for schoolboys with HURLEYS in hands rushing excitedly to school during the next 2 months!

FAOI 14 A: (i) Under 14 training on Wednesdays and on Fridays and on Sundays at 5pm.

(ii). The Under 14 A side crashed out of the ‘o9 County Féile na nGael Competition at the first hurdle last Saturday at a sun-drenched Strand Road. Díomá agus brón ar chách! An scór~ Kerins~O’Rahillys: 5-05; Austin Stacks: 3-03. Kerins~O’Rahillys took the initiative from the throw-in and established an early lead which they were never to relinquish. Stacks were struggling all over the pitch despite their every effort and they trailed by 5 points, 2-02 to 0-03, at half-time. A goal by Greg Horan early in the second half looked to have brought The Rock back into the game but any hopes of turn-around were soon dashed as the better combined Strand Road outfit responded with three goals in a few minutes. Two late goals from Kyle Fitzgibbon only served to put some respectability on the final score. However, our boys fought to the bitter end! The Blues were worthy winners of this contest in which they gained revenge for a defeat in the County League at the hands of the Black’n’Amber a few weeks ago. Though we successfully assailed their stronghold twice this year, we didn’t secure our own castle when the big bad wolf arrived! But we’ll rise again…bí cinnte de sin! Team: Brian Horgan, Darragh O’Carroll, Barry Walsh, Tommy Nicholson, Shane Greensmith, Joseph O’Kelly, Adam Barrett, Greg Horan (1-02), Tomás Ziga, Brendan Duffin, Michael O’Donnell, James Galvin (0-01), Conor Jordan (Captain), Kyle Fitzgibbon (2-00) and Eoghan McKivergan. Subs: Eoin O’Carroll, Breandán Caball, Cillian Comerford, Kieran Flanagan and Graham Riordan.

(iii) Round 6~ On Wednesday, 22nd April, the U14 A team responded to their disappointing performance and result at Féile na nGael on the previous Saturday with a hard earned victory over Laune Rangers at Connolly Park in the Under14 Football County League. Played in very wet and difficult conditions, The Rock showed great character to emerge with two league points despite the absence of several regulars through injury and other commitments. Stacks played with wind advantage in the first half and were a little unlucky to trail at half-time by one point, 1-05 to 2-03. The second half was fairly evenly contested but the home side, playing with great determination, forged ahead and built up a lead of 7 points with five minutes remaining. The Killorglin lads piled on the pressure coming up to the final whistle but Stacks held out to win by two points. Our goalie and backs defended stoutly and were delighted to see a successful result to their 60 minutes of hard work. Joseph O’Kelly, breandán Duffin, Eoin O’Carroll and Tomás Ziga covered miles of slippery ground in their endeavours and our forward division hunted in packs and supported each other well in all attacks. Two young players made their debuts for the U14 A team in the second half, namely Seán Fitzmaurice and Dylan Harnett. Both players can be very pleased with their contributions to a very important victory which sees The Rock on 8 league points after 5 games.

Austin Stacks A: 5-08; Laune Rangers: 4-09.

Team and scorers for Austin Stacks: Cillian Comerford, Darragh O’Carroll, Barry Walsh, Adam Barrett, Shane Greensmith, James O’Connor, Tommy Nicholson, Tomas Ziga, Joseph O’Kelly, Graham Riordan, Breandán Duffin, James Galvin (1-2), Conor Jordan (0-1), Kyle Fitzgibbon (2-4) and Breandán Caball (1-1). Subs: Eoin O’Carroll (1-00), Seán Fitzmaurice and Dylan Harnett.

Next match for Stacks is away to An Ghaeltacht agus tá súil againn go mbeidh an svae linn i nGallarus!

FAOI 14 B: (i) Under 14 training on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 5.30pm.

(ii) An fhoireann B: Craig Corcoran, Seán Hurley, Seán Ó Riain, Enda Jordan, Gavin Ó Braoin, Sam Nealon, Dylan Hartnett, Brian Hill, Niall Carroll-Cane, Timmy Ó Murchú (Captain), AnthonyÓ Muimhneacháin, Richard Hurley, Cian Ó Cathasaigh, Breandán Caball, Cillian O’Brien, Dominic Horgan, Jason Carroll, John Ó Nualláin, Claudio Dema and Graham Ó Mathúna.

(iii) On Wednesday our Bs couldn’t play Legion B as the Killarney pitch was faoi uisce.

HURLING UNDER 16/17/18: Hurling training will take place at 5.30pm in Connolly Park on this Friday, 24ú Aibreán. All hurlers required to report for duty!

UNDER 16: (i) Our second game was away to Ardfert and was a great success. Bhí bua maith againn. Well done, lads.

(ii) And we gained another 2 points from the Churchill/Ballymac team and have taken step closer to the final.

(iii) Our next big task will be to overcome Castle Island Desmonds in the SEMI-FINAL. Venue and date to be arranged. Keep training and preparing, boys! We’ve a final to reach!

(v) County league (Roinn 1): Round 1 ~ Wednesday 22nd June.

CIORCAL CAINTE: To improve your spoken Irish go along to Tralee Library on the last Tuesday of the month…..next session on 28ú Aibreán……..Dé Máirt seo chugainn…from 6.45pm to 7.45pm…agus gan aon chostas!.
