Juvenile Notes 17th April ‘o9

April 17, 2009 By Brian Caball

ACADAMH NA gCAILÍNÍ: (i) BUSY AS BEES: The academy girls trained on Easter Sunday at Caherslee with about fifty girls in action. Many thanks to all the girls, parents and mentors for giving up their Easter Sunday morning. We were pleased to see our own Mary B back helping out again today. We also had some very valued help from Gillian Carroll and Amy Jordan. Once again we were pleased to see more new girls coming to train. The Under 6, Under 8 and Under 10 girls trained with various drills, etc. The Faoi 12 girls had a slightly restful day as on Saturday they had travelled to Castlegregory for a game which they lost by a point after leading for most of the hour. This was only their second game and much was learned by all. This team is improving with every game and will soon be showing what they are really made of. Watch this space!

(ii) REGISTRATION: Please note that registration must be paid by all players by this Sunday. Please see mentors and ensure that all fees are paid and that all details are correct. Lets see everybody at Caherslee this Sunday.

(iii) BIRTHDAYS: The academy would like to wish a “breithlá sona” and a “happy birthday” to Rebecca Ryan who will be ten on Thursday 16th, to Clodagh Fitzgerald who will be twelve on Saturday 18th and to Dakota Carter-O’Flynn who will be eight on Monday 20th.

(iv) GUM SHIELDS: Please encourage your girls to wear gum shields…good girls mind their teeth!

(v) MNÁ NA CARRAIGE: Austin Stacks’ Ladies’ club has received grant aid from Kerry Local Sports’ Partnership to develop a mum’s active programme. It is proposed to run the programme on Sunday mornings from 11-12 in Connolly Park. Six sessions will run between April 19th and May 24th. Each session will cost just €3. This group is for women who want to get active and participate in a variety of fun and fitness activities. Classes may include yoga, fun games, circuits, gym work, aerobics… indeed, anything that gets group members physically active. Go on! Be a role model for your daughters! And enjoy yourself into the bargain! Anyone interested in joining the group should make contact with Niamh Collins at 087-9029584 or niamhcollins@eircom.net.

CAMPA NA CÁSCA: Our Easter Camp for boys and girls Under 8 and Under 10 came to a successful conclusion in C.B.S.~The Green at 12.00 on Friday. Timmy and his team were very satisfied with the week’s work. All the participiants had a great time and had great fun!

PEIL FAOI 6/8/10: Training for all Under 6, Under 8 and Under 10 boys on Sunday at 11am in Caherslee.

HURLING UNDER 16/17/18: Hurling training will take place at 5.30pm in Connolly Park on this Friday, 17ú Aibreán. Remember: Friday is HURLING DAY.

UNDER 12: Training continues for this group on Mondays and on Thursdays at 6pm in Caherslee. County league commenced on Tuesday 14th April.

COACHING: Kerry hurler John Griffin will be back coaching the “SKILFUL GAME” in Tralee schools next week tar éis briseadh na Cásca.

FAOI 14 A: (i) Under 14 training on Wednesdays and on Fridays and on Sundays at 5pm.

(ii) Round 4~ We defeated Crokes by 9 points on Wednesday of last week. This was another impressive victory with new recruit Eoghan O’Carroll slotting in brilliantly beside Tomás Ziga at midfield and with both players finding the net…Tomás Ziga with 2. Kyle Fitzgibbon contributed another 2-5 with Eoghan McKivergan getting 1-1 and James Galvin slotting 0-1. Team: Brian Horgan, Tommy Nicholson, Barry Walsh, Graham Riordan, Shane Greensmith, James O’Connor, Adam Barrett, Eoghan O’Carroll, Tomás Ziga, Brendan Duffin, Michael O’Donnell, James Galvin, Conor Jordan, Kyle Fitzgibbon, Eoghan McKivergan. Subs: Darragh O’Carroll, Niall Carroll-Cane agus Breandán Caball.

(iii) Round 5~ Ní dheachamar go Cill Airne to play Legion on Wednesday last as their field was faoi uisce.

(iv) We’ll play Kerins~O’Rahillys on Saturday in the Féile na nGael quarter final at 3pm in Fossa…a game worth seeing…a very important encounter!

FAOI 14 B: (i) Under 14 training on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 5.30pm.

(ii) Our B team had an unsuccessful outing last Wednesday week against Crokes in the third round of the Lee Strand League. Although scoring first through the boot of the captain, Timmy Murphy, Stacks were under severe pressure for the half and went in at half-time on the wrong side of a 3-5 to 0-3 score line. The other Stacks scores came from Breandán Caball. The second half saw a better display from Stacks with scores coming from Timmy Murphy, Sam Nealon, Sean Ryan, Dylan Hartnett and Breandán Caball. However, despite valiant efforts by all players, Crokes ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-7 to 3-8 in a game that our side could have won. An fhoireann: Craig Corcoran, Seán Hurley, Seán Ó Riain, Enda Jordan, Gavin Ó Braoin, Sam Nealon, Dylan Hartnett, Brian Hill, Niall Carroll-Cane, Timmy Ó Murchú (Captain), Anthony Moynihan, Richard Hurley, Cian Ó Cathasaigh, Breandán Caball, Cillian O’Brien, Dominic Horgan, Jason Carroll, John Ó Nualláin, Claudio Dema and Graham Ó Mathúna.

(iii) On Wednesday our Bs couldn’t play Legion B as the Killarney pitch was faoi uisce.

UNDER 16: (i) Our second game was away to Ardfert. Check for news on www.kerrycoistenanog.com.

(ii) Our game against Churchill/Ballymac has been postponed.

(iii) Blitz (7 a-side): May bank holiday (Monday).
