UNDER 12: Our Under 12s have returned to training and their sessions will continue on Sundays at 12.00 in Caherslee. FAOI 14: (i) The countdown to the new season is well under way and both our Under 14 sides are well into their pre-season work. On Wednesday we had a good workout against the Ó Céirín~Ó Rathailligh boys in Páirc Uí hÉalaithe…ar an gCnoc Gorm…and did very well. If we can maintain this standard we should be near the top of the ladder later in the year! We need to keep at the serious training, though! Under 14 training will take place on Wednesdays and on Fridays and on Sundays at 5pm (‘til 6.30pm). A boys and B boys will train separately. ACADAMH NA mBAN: The academy had its final day of training on Sunday last in The Green School Gym. Due to the registration day at Connolly Park for all our Under 6, Under 8 and Under 10 girls this final day inside was for our Under 12 girls only.
We were pleased that over twenty girls turned up for this session and especially pleased as several parents had also to be at Connolly Park with younger players.
Some of our mentors were at Connolly Park and they included our own Mary B. who, although on crutches, still keeps going. (Tóg bog é, a Mhary…take it easy, but we’re glad to have you! Tá súil again nach fada go mbeidh tú ar do sheanléim arís!) We still had several mentors at the Green Gym and they, once again, came up with some more new drills to keep the variety going. Also, of course, some of the old favourite exercises were still being enjoyed by the girls; the session finished off with a game for the final twenty minutes. One of our girls…presumably…thought the of) was still on but luckily, or unluckily, hit him on the back of the head instead of the front!
We would like to thank all the girls who have attended the indoor sessions and also once again to say welcome to all the girls who have recently joined us. Also, gan dabht, we say thank you to all the parents who have been making the early morning drives to the various sessions. Hopefully, with our outdoor season starting next Sunday, things will be a bit easier! Freisin, as was reported at the registration day at Connolly Park, the boys’ and girls’ mentors, etc., will be working in closer co-ordination…e.g., regular days of training and code of practice for players mentors and parents.
We are pleased to announce that Caitríona Chester has become the girls’ child welfare officer; parents can meet Caitríona at training. The academy would like to thank The Green School for letting us use their gym for the indoor season and thanks to Tim and all involved for arranging this. So, our outdoor season commences this coming Sunday, 15th March, at Caherslee GAA grounds. The throw-in time for all our girls from Under 6 to Under 12 is 11.00am.
Two days later on Tuesday, 17ú Márta, we…cailíní na Carraige… will be marching in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. All members are asked to assemble at 11.30am at Austin Stack Park, John Joe Sheehy Road. It would be great to see all our Academy girls there on the day wearing the Black and Amber. Please, rest your voices at school the day before…tell the teacher…no singing…as we hope you will be able to exercise your tonsils on the day.
The Academy would like to wish a happy birthday to Tara Clifford who will be six on 12th March and to Sarah Tansley who will be nine on 17ú Márta. Go raibh breithlá álainn ag an mbeirt acu.
