(ii) Our U9 Thursday training is now finished for the 2023 season…NB. (iii) Best wishes to our U9s and to their mentors who’ll travel the 80 miles to the St Finbarr Club in Togher, Cork, on Saturday next (14th) to participate in the annual Canty Cup Football Tournament. Good luck, all, and have a great time! (Mícheál Ó Loingsigh).

Finally, the U11 season finishes with the participation of our U10s in the annual John Lynch Memorial Tournament in Connolly Park on Saturday the 28th, followed by the John Galvin and Garry Fernane Cup Finals on Sunday 29th October – and what a busy season it’s been!
UNDER 13: The Claregalway Tournament marked the end of our brilliant U13 season. Thanks to all the boys and parents for their commitment, assistance and cooperation throughout the year. How do you feel about the season’s activities? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated; all ideas and opinions will be up for consideration (in the end of year report) and will greatly help in our planning for 2024. Thanks to a dedicated and committed coaching team of Ciarán Murphy, Donal Corcoran, Ger Teahon, Kieran O’Flaherty, Micko Horan and Tim McMahon….bheidís molta dá mbeimis inár dtost. We appreciate the support of the club officers, the field committee, the clubhouse staff and our sponsors, Ned O’Shea & Sons and John Lane & Sons. We hope that all the boys will stay involved with the Austin Stack Club in 2024. (Dan Ahern)
CAID FAOI 14/15: Our U14 section of players took part in the 9-aside blitz on Thursday evening in Cordal. With over 20 boys available to play it was decided to give everyone game time and a different Rock team played in each game. Unfortunately, no victories were achieved but it is very encouraging that we have such large numbers of good players taking part in football. This number augurs well for the future of The Rock! On Sunday last we played our last competitive fixture of the season. Unfortunately, we lost narrowly to Na Gaeil in the Town League. In the ongoing process of developing these boys, we started this game with all of our U15 boys in action and with a handful of our U14 lads on the bench. Na Gaeil started strongly and built up a big lead….scoring 5 goals in the first half alone! Doggedly and determinedly, our boys stuck manfully at the task and kept working for and taking their point opportunities and finished the half at 5-6for Na Gaeil to 1-9 for The Rock. Facing a mountainous challenge, our inspired warriors started really strongly in the second half, they put in a truly great, brave and heroic effort and eventually…iontas na n-iontas…they drew level as the game entered the final stages….5-7 to 2-16; unfortunately for our boys Na Gaeil kicked on again and took the win by a mere 0-1….5-9 to 2-17. A great comeback and a great learning experience for everyone involved! So, as we conclude our season, we want to thank everyone involved in the U15 boys’ group. Great praise and thanks to our team manager, Theo Diggin, for all his hard work in planning the sessions and activities throughout season. Ardfhear, Theo, agus ardbhainisteoir! Thanks to all the coaches for their time spent working with the group and for their unselfish dedication. Lastly, ‘thank you’ to every one of the large number of players in the group. Well done, boys, for your commitment to football all year, for your excellent behaviour and for your all-round good craic. Keep up the individual workouts and sessions that we practiced all season. And, hopefully, we’ll come back stronger next year. Many THANKS to the following U15 COACHES for their work and dedication throughout the ’23 season: Theo Ó Duigín (manager), Pa Laide, Frankie Murphy, Ger Hobbert, Ronan Kavanagh, Morgan O Connell. (Ger Hobbert)

GAELCHOLÁISTE: Dhá scéal spóirt ón nGaelcholáiste: (i) Bhí mí-ádh ar an bhfoireann Faoi 19 an tseachtain seo caite i Moyvane in aghaidh Mheánscoil na Toirbirte, Tairbeart. Cúl iontach ó Luke Ó Cathasaigh agus teaspántas láidir óna dheartháir, Gavin, were not enough to subdue the Tarbert play, unfortunately. Rory Ó Loinsigh was on the panel. (ii) Ar an láimh eile, bhí bua iontach ag cispheileadóirí an choláiste i halla na scoile; bhí tacaíocht iontach acu óna gcomhscoláirí! Our state-of-the-art school basketball hall hosted a fantastic fixture in which Rory Ó Loinsigh agus Luke Ó Chathasaigh togged out against two well-supported Milltown teams. While the U15s were unfortunate to lose by a handful of baskets in the first match, liú ard nó dhó ón slua spurred on Brian O’Donnell, Harry Wallace agus a gcairde to a famous win in the second encounter. Ní foláir dom a rá go raibh an scoil ag léimt le háthas ag críoch an chluiche! The above teams will continue their campaigns through Deireadh Fómhair….nach aoibhinn beatha an scoláire spórtúl! (D.Ó Loinsigh)

SEASON WINDING DOWN: Now that the Swallows have flown thousands of miles southwards to South Africa and that the Brent Geese have flown thousands of miles eastwards from Western Canada (to Tralee Bay), it’s time for us to begin to slowly wind down our outdoor football activities. Agus níl an aimsir ró-olc!
