PEIL FAOI 8:
Great football was played once again by our Rock youngsters on Sunday morning last in the Caherslee GAA pitch. The Rock U6/7/8 boys will be in action again at 11am on Sunday next, 13th April. The football is getting better as the summer weather seems to be arriving! We might even hear the cuckoo in the next few weeks. Feicfimid sibh, a bhuachaillí, ar an 13ú d’Aibreán i gCathair Sailí. Fáilte mhór roimh bhuachaillí atá i gClubcheantar na Carraige!

Our U12 boys played their first County League game of 2025. They challenged Laune Rangers on Sunday last (6th) and acquitted themselves well. Well done, lads! Training for all U12 boys will take place on Tuesday and on Thursday at 5.45pm in Connolly Park. We look forward to more great games in the next few weeks. Our U12 footballers are motoring! (Tim McMahon)
PEIL FAOI 14:
Our U14s played their first County League game v Milltown in Milltown on Tuesday of last week. They returned with a good win and a right good workout. Well done, boys! They played v Firies on Tuesday last. Great effort, great enthusiasm and great football was played. Training continues on Friday and on Sunday mornings. And it’s heartening to see so many young Rockies turning out for the training sessions. Maith sibh, a bhuachaillí! (Micko Horan; Jonathan Magnier)
PEIL FAOI 15:
Our U15 boys played in the quarter final of the John West Féile Peile na nÓg v Na Gaeil last Sunday (6th). Several games were scheduled for Finuge but, i ndeireadh na dála, it was decided that ourselves and Na Gaeil would battle it out for a semi-final spot in Tralee. Caitheadh pingin san aer, Na Gaeil won the toss and had home advantage! Scór i gCillín…Na Gaeil: 3-5; AdeS: 0-3. It was indeed a difficult day at the office for our lads against a strong Na Gaeil team. In a short 30-minute format, such as this was, a quick start is very important and even though our lads had the first two attacks they could not find a score. At the other end Na Gaeil were clinical and had taken a 1-2 to 0-0 lead by the 8th minute. The Gaeil tails were now up and they went on to dominate the remainder of the 1st half and held a 2-4 to no score lead at half-time. Our lads knew that they would have to put in a much better 2nd half performance to have a chance of getting back into the game. To their credit they did put in a much better display sa dara leath, dominating possession for most of the 2nd half but still found scores hard to come by especially as they had to try and go for goals to reduce the deficit in the shortened game format. All the while, the Gaeil forwards were dangerous on the break and were capable of picking off vital scores…which they did! 3-5 to 0-3 is how it finished; much as our stalwarts tried, and with multiple efforts, they could not find the goals they needed. Ochón, mo bhrón! Cúil a bhuann cluichí! Ach beidh lá eile ag an bPaorach! Guímid gach ádh ar Na Gaeil sa chuid eile den chomórtas. Our lads, because of their heroic and determined efforts on the field of play, can hold their heads high and all should look forward to the many opportunities that will present themselves in the upcoming U14 and U16 competitions; we have a long season ahead of us and we have outstanding players! PEIL FAOI 16:
Both U16 teams were in Central League action in Connolly Park on Thursday, 3rd April, a somewhat overcast evening. There were mixed results in this first round of the competition.
(i) On the main pitch, our A team contested an excitingly close and heartthrobbing Division 1 match against Milltown/Castlemaine but the visitors took the win on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-10. Faraor, we came up short against an efficient Milltown/ Castelmaine outfit. It was one that ‘got away’ but we must credit our boys as they kept going to the end in true Rock fashion. We have plenty areas on which to work over the coming days and weeks. Paul Hayes was the referee for this match.
(ii) The B team had a narrow 0-2 win over the visitors, Laune Rangers B, in an exciting 11-a-side encounter…2-7 to 1-8. Wonderful football was played…peil den scoth! Our boys displayed great attitude with plenty of hard work and excellent team communication on show. The players stood in silence for one minute, in the Nuns’ Field, in memory of the late Michael O’Dowd, grandfather of B team captain, Jayden O’Dowd. Beannacht Dé lena anam dílis.
