The Under 6 boys had a great final morning in Connolly Park under the watchful eyes of Mikey Collins and Brian O’Donoghue. Enjoyment all round!
PEIL FAOI 9:
The season for our U9 footballers concluded in traditional fashion on Sunday in Connolly Park with the playing of the end-of-year league finals. The day’s excitement started in the Nuns’ Field with the customary parade in which all Under 11, Under 9 and Under 7 players proudly marched to the rhythm and echo of button, reed and bodhrán. Following Amhrán na bhFiann, which was enthusiastically sung by our younger players, the action on the pitch began.
In the Under 9 Paddy Drummond Cup Final, Tigers, under the watchful eye of coach Richard and led by two young Longs, overcame the understrength Lions who were led by Alex Kavanagh/Hughie Crean and managed by former Kerry player, Marc Ó Sé. This final was a high-class affair in which some great football played. The Paddy Drummond Cup was presented by Paddy Drummond’s grandniece, Elma Nix, to the winning joint captains, Conor Long and Caelan Long.
The Bracker O’ Regan Cup Final turned out to be a highly competitive exhibition between Cheetahs and Jaguars. Cheetahs, under U9 head coach, Éamonn Scanlan, had the better of the early exchanges and led at half-time by 1-3 to 0-3. However, following inspirational words from their manager, Martin Courtney, Jaguars turned the game around with three brilliant goals early in the second period and they ran out winners on a final score of Jaguars 5-3 to Cheetahs 2-4. The winning team, captained by Ruairí Magnier and Faylin Carroll, were worthy winners after a titanic battle against the team that was captained by Darragh Maguire and Donnagh Townsend-Scanlan. The victors were strong throughout but Jamie Courtney pulled off a few great saves and Fionn Hegarty was excellent throughout. The losing captains were very well assisted by James Norton and Jarrod Ryan but really everyone played well. The Martin Bracker O’Regan Cup was presented to Ruairí Magnier and Faylin Carroll by the O’Regan Family.
The Jimmy Barry Cup was presented by Paddy Barry, Mary Fitzmaurice and David Fitzmaurice to Darragh Maguire and Donnagh Townsend-Scanlan.
