AN BHLIAIN NUA: We wish every single one of our young players a Happy New Year. Enjoy the rest of your holidays and do a little practice with your football and/or camán and sliotar before going back to school. Enjoy the lengthening days and be preparing for the upcoming season of football fun and great games. New Year good wishes, also, to all our hard-working coaches, trainers, bainisteoirí, followers/fans and very supportive parents. Wear your mask, sanitise your hands and avoid COVID. A healthy 2022 to all, Deo volente.
WAYNE’s WARRIORS: Our thoughts are on the upcoming Munster final and our good wishes are very much for Wayne and to his faithful band of players. We look forward with great anticipation and excitement to a game in which the Club of St Finbarr will take on The Street of Champions. Corn Mhíchíl Uí Chonchúir awaits the victorious team. Wayne’s team will face the Cork champions in full confidence of victory. Indeed, 35 years have passed since ‘The Barrs’ last appeared in a Munster football final….tréimhse an-fhada….a long period! We hope that The Rock, with the experiences of 2014 and of 2021, will win a 20th Munster club title for Kerry and a 3rd for the Black‘n’Amber. Go n-éirí go geal lenár n-imreoirí sinsearacha agus iad ag ullmhú do chluiche mór na Mumhan!
“Now, the Togher boys will face our men and they will try their best
But ‘Star’ and Dylan and our lads will surely win the test.
From throw in, they will battle hard and fight for every ball
And the 16th Man will coax them on ‘till the réiteoir’s final call”.
RACE NIGHT: The Austin Stack Club Gala Race Night will be rescheduled when current COVID restrictions will be lifted. FÍRICÍ: 19 ‘Munsters’ have been won by teams from Kerry: Na Crócaigh (8), East Kerry (3), Na Stacaigh (2), Castleisland Desmonds (2), Laune Rangers (2), An Ghaeltacht (1), Shannon Rangers (1). In 1976 we defeated our upcoming opponents, ‘The Barrs,’ by 0-2. In 2014 we defeated The Nire (Port Láirge) by 0-4. Two other Tralee clubs reached the Munster senior club final but were unsuccessful: the John Mitchel Club lost by 0-1 to the St Nicholas Club (Corcaigh) in 1967 and the Kerins-O’Rahilly Club lost by 0-1 to Kilmurry-Ibrickane (An Clár) in 2009. The St Finbarr Club is the only Munster club to have won both the senior football and senior hurling championships in the same year….1980. They won’t be doing it this year! And they have never beaten us in a Munster final….football or hurling!! An Charraig Abú!
