PEIL FAOI U16:
On Monday 13th we faced Na Gaeil under lights in Connolly Park in the U16 Tralee and St Brendan Districts semi-final. 24 boys lined out in Black‘n’Amber…what a problem to have…showing great strength in the squad. We were well motivated and very determined to do well in this game following our defeat to Na Gaeil in the County League. Bhí tús maith ag Na Gaeil, afách! They took the opening scores as our lads took a few minutes to shake off the cobwebs and get into the game! Thankfully, we eventually settled, upped our game, adjusted our radar and took a strong lead into the break…AdeS: 1-9; Na Gaeil: 0-3. Bhí go maith is ní raibh go holc! One of the most impressive things about this fixture was the maturity of the players (cinn chríonna i gcoirp óga!) who used their voices and had their say in the dressing room at half-time. There’s spirit in these braves! Our coaches didn’t have to say much ag an mbriseadh as the boys themselves did the talking! However, an unfortunate accident occurred on the restart when Eoin Mangan, our captain (on the night), received a finger injury and that incident was then followed by another tuisle when Darragh Lyons had to be replaced following a collision. Our ‘on-the-ball’ mentors managed the situation well with replacements and repositioning of players and it was during this period that buachaillí an Chillín made a comeback, attacked strongly and got on top. Thankfully, Conor O’Regan was having a great game in goals and pulled off some great saves. The prompt introduction of substitutes from the bench ensured that our boys settled again; they concentrated on their play, motored as a unit, played great stuff, worked the pigskin with skill, accuracy and alacrity, painstakingly gained the upper hand and proceeded to take a very significant and special win. Another good day for The Rock! Scór deiridh…AdeS: 3-12; Na Gaeil: 2-12. We are now in the final and we await details of the fixture. Training is continuing during the week in preparation for this Town Championship final and for the County League semi-final. A rolling Rock gathers no moss!! The U16 season is far from being over! (Ger Hobbert)
