PEIL FAOI 12: Roll Up! Roll Up! The Rockie U12 circus returns to town this Saturday (18th) with our first training session of the New Year taking place AT 4PM in the Sports Hall at the new Kerry Sports Academy in the IT Tralee North Campus, Dromtacker. Bliain Nua, Tús Nua! Dul Chun Cinn! Our returning ‘born in 2008’ warriors will be joined by 20+ graduates from the outstanding U10 class of 2019 and Rock Street is abuzz with excitement over the possibilities for this year’s U12 group. The Town League is only a few weeks away and, so, the coaching team of Tim McMahon, Ciarán Murphy, Pa Laide, Lawrence Cotter, Joe Walsh, Shane Lynch and Dex Carmody has already been busy preparing for the new season. And…and some special events for players and parents will be taking place in February! Mmmm, watch this space!
PEIL FAOI 14: Among our U14 mentors for 2020 are Liam Lynch, Eric Nosaldiak, Morgan O’Connell, William Kirby, Ronan Kavanagh and Richie Conway. Under 14 boys….begin polishing your brógs in praparation for a season of top-class football!
PEIL FAOI 16: These boys have started back training on Sunday mornings and will continue each Sunday morning for the next few weeks. Training will be at 10.45am in the Bishop’s Field. We have booked the GYM for Wednesday evenings from 6.15pm and, so, be sure to be ready to go for a quarter past six. Don’t forget to bring foam rollers, bands and plenty of water. (ii) Our first U16 competitive outing of the 2020 season will be a challenge match on Saturday February 1st (Lá ‘le Bríde) against Galway’s famed Tuam Stars. ‘Tús maith, leath na hoibre,’ a deir na bainisteoirí. The Tuam Stars club was founded in 1887 as an ‘Association Football’ team but, 15 months later, the club switched to ‘Gaelic Football’. They played their first game ar Lá ‘le Pádraig 1889 under the name Tuam Stars. They’ve won 25 county championships and one Connacht club title. They won their last county title in 1994. Among their most famous players are ‘The Terrible Twins’….Seán Purcell and Frankie Stockwell….who were on the Galway All-Ireland team of 1956.
SCÓR na bPÁISTÍ: (i) Scór na bPáistí is for youngsters who attend primary school and it will take place in the spring. Now is the time to prepare. Have we a boy or two or a girl who can sing a song, tell a story, sing with a group or play with a group of musicians? We have a few experienced quiz lads! We are one of the few clubs that could enter three competitors/groups in each competition….club na gcailíní, club na mbuachaillí, club na hiománaíochta. (ii) Good luck to the three Kerry clubs that will have performers in the Scór na nÓg All-Ireland finals in the INEC, Cill Airne, ar Lá ‘le Bríde (1ú Feabhra): Fionnúig (ceol uirlise), Gleann Fleisce (bailéadghrúpa) agus Spá Chill Airne (quiz).

CLUB LOTTO TICKETS: As we are in competition with other clubs, until April 2020, to retain our very important franchise to have our CLUB LOTTO TICKETS on sale at Rock Street Post Office, our local post office, it is necessary that you registar your support for The Rock Club every single time you carry out a transaction there with Marie, Martin or a staff member. Every time that you do business in the post office let it be known that you are a Rockie and they will ‘stamp’ their/our Rock Club card. The club with the most points will win the franchise. ATHCHÚRSÁIL: The ladies of the club will hold their annual Clothes Recycling Fundraiser on Saturday February 15th and they request that every household would start collecting in advance of that date. Acceptable clothes/goods include men’s/women’s/children’s clothing, shoes, handbags, belts, soft toys and household textiles such as curtains and towels…and, please, no duvets or pillows. It is requested that all goods be clean and dry. Mórbhuíochas.
