FAOI 6: Heavy showers agus blustery winds kept a few regulars at home on Sunday last but a good few die-hards always turn up regardless of elements and fair play to ‘em! The punt kick (lascphas), pick up (pioc suas), bounce (preab) agus tackle (ionsaí) were the main skills on Sunday with a few fun games agus 2 small-sided games to finish up. Once again Mike Tansley, Damien Hogan, Adam Hegarty agus Cillian O’Mahoney have led the way with 100% attendance at training agus it shows as the kicks get harder, longer agus more accurate (níos láidre, níos faide agus níos cruinne). Keep up the good work! New lad Cian Sheehan has been a great addition to the team and he’s a natural footballer with bags of talent. The Lynch brothers, Mark agus David, have been out the back at home as the kicking has come on greatly since the start of the year. Ronan Mulrooney tackled like a boy possessed winning the ball time agus again, while Conall MacThréinfhir agus Paddy Lane covered every inch of grass from midfield to goal. John Feely, George Patton, Kieran Ó Súilleabháin, Éamonn de Barra, Daniel O Connor agus Daniel Kirby also played their hearts out, getting some fantactic scores. Well done to all agus, remember, midweek training starts this Thursday at 6pm (‘till 7pm) in CAHERSLEE and, so, no excuses for missing a week at training. And take great care when crossing the road.

All are enjoying the “skilful game”…an cluiche páirce is tapúla faoin spéir! (ii) What a great win by our Under 12 boys in Listowel on Sunday last! This was a great night for the lads as they registered their first win of the season and they fully deserved their victory. When Crokes beat us last week we still scored 4 goals and 8 points but our brave boys registered 6 goals and 10 points in Lios Tuathail…and all from play…which was magnificent indeed and against a strong Robert Emmet outfit. Having played into the wind in the first half, we led at half time by 13 points, 4 6 to 1 2, with scores coming from captain Cian Holden, Gary Clifford, Jack McGrath and the mighty Kieran Kiwi Killeen. There were some great displays also from our goalie, Robbie Murphy, who not only made some superb saves but gave a great display on kicking out the ball as well as marshaling the full-back line in front of him. (Jack O’Connor needs his likes!) In front of Robbie the two Ronans, Moore and Foley, played fantastic, as well as Cian McAuliffe who cleared every ball in front of him. Oisín Liston and Jordan Ó Sé played really well as well…a big improvement in all these lads from week to week. In the second half Alan Dore came into his own and scored some lovely points. Also to impress were Dion Moran, Ian McCoy and the Rockpark Avenue duo of Denis Tangney and Jamie Fitzgerald who got a super point from play. These lads have been training since January and it is now beginning to show in their display. Not only did they win the match but they also played a nice brand of football of which Colm himself would be proud! Well done, boys. Thanks to all the parents who came to support the lads. Panel: Robbie Murphy, Ronan Moore, Ronan Foley, Cian McAuliffe, Oisín Liston, Kieran Kiwi Killeen, Jack McGrath, Jordan Ó Sé, Gary Clifford, Denis Tangney, Jamie Fitzgerald, Dion Moran, Ian McCoy, Alan Dore and captain for the night, Cian Holden. An scór:- Austin Stacks: 6-10; Emmets: 4-4. (iii) Football training: Mondays and Fridays ~7pm to 8pm~ unless change by text. FAOI 14B: (i) Under 14B County League~ Austin Stacks: 2-5; Kerins-O’Rahillys: 2-10. Our Under 14Bs were defeated by the K-O’Rs in the final County League group game at Connolly Park. The difference between the sides, i ndeireadh na dála, was our rivals’ capacity to be more clinical in front of the posts. No matter how hard we tried we could not find the same rhythm as shown in last week’s win v Na Crócaigh. It can be argued that the K-O’Rs, who were at full strength, did not allow us the same kind of time on the ball, a thing we enjoyed in previous matches! It could also be argued that we lacked the sharpness necessary to exploit our opponents’ weaknesses. Pé scéal é, one thing is for sure…we made too many elementary mistakes, something we cannot afford to repeat should we face Dr Crokes in the final of the League. However, there were positives…bíonn dhá insint ar gach scéal! Fine performances by Darren Chester, Ciarán O’Reilly, David Fitzmaurice, Podge Looney (with a goal) and Donagh McKivergan (with 3 fine points) were crucial in us having a half-time lead of 1-2. Aided by the wind, the Strand Road boys had the upper hand for most of the second half, scoring 1-9 to our 0-2 (scored by Fergal Ryan and Podge Looney). During this period, Michael Linnane, Seán Tansley, Keelan Pierce, Cian Liston, Rory Forbes and Shane Walsh showed up well. But with the K-O’Rs hitting 7 points without reply, it was an uphill battle all the way. Mar sin féin, the boys are to be commended for showing a great fighting spirit up to the final whistle which, for mentors and supporters, is very encouraging. Man-of-the-Match: David Fitzmaurice. An fhoireann: Conor Ó Nualláin, Darren Chester, Michael Linnane, Seán Tansley, Keelan Pierce, Ciarán O’Reilly, David Fitzmaurice, Philip Quilter, Cian Liston, Joseph O’Connor, Fergal Ryan (1-1), Ian Moynihan, Adam McEllistrim, Donagh McKivergan (0-3), Shane Ó Néill.
