Juvenile Club News 1st January, 2024.

January 1, 2024 By Brian Caball

2024: Best wishes to all our young players as they pack their bags in readiness for another school term. Go n-éirí go geal is go seoigh leo ar a n-aistear foghlama! Agus go dtreoraí agus go stiúradh an Tiarna iad!

AGM:
The juvenile section of the club will hold its Annual General Meeting in Connolly Park at 7pm on Wednesday 10th January. Good wishes to Richie Conway, Colm Mangan (our new rúnaí for 2024) and their team as they prepare to lead The Rock juveniles into another season. Newcomers welcome. Everybody invited.

HELP! If you’d like to be an Austin Stack Club coach/mentor/administrator/helper come along….beidh fáilte romhat. Anois do sheans mór….now is your chance!

BACK IN ACTION: No moss being gathered in Rock Street this January as the enthusiastic youngsters of The Street of Champions (and their fantastic managers) prepare to roll up their sleeves, lace their boots and face into the 107th year of the Austin Stack Club. This is by popular demand! Initial plans as follows……

UNDER 7
: The U7 boys will return to INDOOR football action in the Mounthawk Gym on Sunday January 14th. New players most welcome. Feel free, boys, to bring along a friend or two! We are calling/inviting all players who were born in 2017/18/19/20 to come along. Fáilte roimh chách!

FAOI 9: All boys who were born in 2015/16 are invited/encouraged to come along to The Rock Club and to be part of the U9 group. These lads will return to INDOOR football action in Mounthawk Gym on January 14th. New players welcome agus beidh fáilte Uí Cheallaigh rompu.

UNDER 11: The U11-ers, those young men who were born in 2013/14, are invited to return to action on January 14th and their ‘home ground’ will be The Green CBS Secondary School Astro Turf pitch (off Dan Spring Road). New players welcome. And bring along a friend! Don’t miss an opportunity, boys! Don’t miss a session!

ATTENDANCE: Among last season’s best attenders (Faoi 13) were Seosamh Ó hAllmharáin, Liam Ó Ciarba agus Dara Ó Muircheartaigh who attended over 90% of training sessions during the year! That’s the standard, boys!

SCÓR: The Tralee District finals of Scór na bPáistí will take place in February. The county final will take place on March 23rd. Competitions: a quiz team of four, solo singing, ballad group, recitation/scéalaíocht, music group, figure/set dancing.

THE GREEN – Peil: (i) The Green Under 17 lads are working diligently in preparation for their important upcoming challenge in the Frewen Cup competition (Scoileanna na Mumhan). Just a month to go! Their game has been scheduled for Wednesday 7th February and the winners will take on either Midleton CBS or St Flannan’s College, Ennis….two established strongholds….just like Tralee CBS!! The Rock representatives on the panel: Olivier Lata, Fionnán Ryan, Ronan Carroll, Aodhán Horgan and Ryan O’Driscoll. An Fhaiche Abú! (ii) Just over a week to go for The Green Under 19 Munster quarter final game in the Corn Uí Mhuirí competition! They’ll take on Mallow’s Patrician Academy on Wednesday 17th January. The Rock boys on the panel: Thomas Deregee, Fionnán Ryan, Ronan Carroll, Olivier Lata, Donncha Horgan, Aodhán Horgan, Ryan O’Driscoll, Seán Óg Ó Brosnacháin. An Fhaiche Abú!

MOUNTHAWK – Peil: (i)
The Hill of the Hawk Under 19 footballers are training hard for their Corn Uí Mhuirí Munster quarter final game v Cork’s Rochestown College. They expect to be in serious action on Wednesday 17th January. Rockmen on the panel: Michael Tansley, James Fisher, Jack Murphy, Ben Murphy, Pádraig O’Halloran, Daniel Ó Ciarba, Paddy Lane and Noah Townsend. Good luck to Cnoc an tSeabhbaic! (ii) The Mercy Mounthawk U17 footballers are eagerly looking forward to their upcoming Munster U17 challenge. We wish them every success. Our Rock boys on the panel: Ben Litchfield, Harry Murphy, Ben Murphy, Alex Touhy, Cormac Bastible, Eoin Murphy, Liam Sweeney-O’Connor, Jack Shanahan, Jack Diggin. Mercy Mounthawk Abú!

AN GAELCHOLÁISTE – Iománaíocht: Fillfidh daltaí an Ghaelcholáiste ar ais ar scoil an tseachtain seo chugainn agus iad lán de dhóchas i dtaobh cluiche ceannais iománaíochta na Mumhan (Corn Uí Chinnéide). Having pipped Askeaton’s Coláiste Mhuire (an amalgamation of Shanagolden, Mount Trenchard and Askeaton schools) by the smallest of margins in the Munster hurling semi-final they’re hoping that luck will come their way in their upcoming big big challenge. We send our best wishes to Rory Ó Loinsigh, Gavin Ó Cathasaigh, Luke Ó Cathasaigh and the full Gaelcholáiste outfit! A Munster U19 E Hurling Final victory would be a great achievement for the Cluain Mhór gaelscoil; and it would be good for the promotion of the skilful game in Tralee.

CLUB LOTTO:

OÍCHE CHINN BLIANA: A great night was had by all in our clubhouse on New Year’s Night.
