UNDER 14/15/16 – CLUB FOOTBALL:
(i) Our very enjoyable football sessions continued during the week…on Wednesday, on Friday and on Sunday. Last week we completed our physical development phase of our training plan for the season. Thanks to Keith Costello for his dedication and input in leading and delivering the programme over the last 10 weeks. We retested the players on Sunday morning and, in doing so, followed the exact tests that were carried out at the very start of the year. Marked improvements were recorded by players in all tests. Sin scéal iontach! Well done, young men of The Rock! So, the point has been proven…regular and routine training sessions bring positive results. The seanfhocal stands the test of time: cleachtadh a dhéanann máistreacht…practice makes perfect! It is hoped that the boys will continue with their enthusiastic spirit and positive attitude throughout the season. Some of our 2009-born players were involved with the minor team this week; they played their two opening games of the season. We expect to have a challenge game for the U15boys, an tseachtain seo, in preparation for the Féile competition. (Ger Hobbert)
(ii) The Mick O’Brien (Nemo Rangers) U15 Tournament stars: Alex O’Flaherty, Conor Murphy, Danny Lane, David Ahern, Diarmuid Hennessy, Elliot Calleja, Jayden O’Dowd, Liam Swords, Mark Foley, Ryan Moriarty, Séamus Keenan, Tom Dawson, Billy Kirby, Blake Bowler, Darragh Moriarty, Oran O’Regan, Shea Horan, Tadhg Lucey, Tadhg O’Regan, Oisín Horan. Coaches: Dan Ahern, Donal Corcoran and Micko Horan. We wish the best of luck to players and coaches in their upcoming U14 and U16 football challenges; this season our U15 squad is split between the U14 and U16 age groups. (Mícheál Ó hÓdhráin)

AN OÍCHE CHAIDRIMH:
A great night was had by all at The Rock Club Social on Friday last in Óstán Bhaile an Gharraí! Oíche go maidin a bhí ann.

GAA v UK:
How nice to learn that there are c.5,000 youngsters playing Gaelic Football in the United Kingdom and that that’s a 28% rise in the number of young active GAA players, many of whom don’t have any Irish ‘connections.’ And 2,000 play our game in London. Good news…dea-scéal eile! Should we not get much more coverage of OUR games (played in England) in our Irish media?
