Juvenile (Boys) Club Notes 8th August, 2023

August 8, 2023 By Brian Caball

Nótaí na nÓg – Cumann Aibhistín de Staic      –      The Austin Stack Club – JUVENILES

CAMPA PEILE: Our club’s annual football camp is going exceptionally well (August 8th ~ August 12th) and all our young Gaelic footballers (ceithre bliana go dtí trí bliana déag d’aois) are having a great footballing week! The camp will end on Saturday.

PEIL FAOI 7: (i) Football as usual next Sunday morning (13ú Lúnasa) i gCathair Sailí ag 11am. Looking forward to seeing all our young future David Cliffords! (ii) Once again, brilliant football was played on Thursday last (5.30pm).

PEIL FAOI 9: (i) See you all on Sunday next (August 13th), boys, and (ii) we hope to see you all in Connolly Park on Thursday at 5.30pm.

ALL-STARS
: Due to the unpredictable weather…with showers in abundance…our attendance numbers were down last Sunday morning. The real reason that some may have taken a break may have been that the bodies were tired after participating throughout the week in the very successful All Stars Cúl Camp. Indeed, it was a cool Cúl Camp! For those who turned up….there was plenty of fun with our warm up games; a lot of skill was on display in our drills and ball practice; everyone had a good time. We will do it all again next week! Therefore, if you want your child to join us so that they can increase their social participation, make friends and gain confidence while learning and participating in a team sport join us at 10am next Sunday (13th August) at the Austin Stack Club in Connolly Park. (Cathal O’Shea)

PEIL FAOI 11: (i) More Football-For-Fun at 10.50am next Sunday (13ú Lúnasa) in Caherslee.
(ii) The U11 Central Region GoGames (A and B):
3rd August: AdeS v Milltown/Castlemaine…what fine footballers we have!!
17th August at 7pm: Keel v AdeS (as baile)…gach ádh, a bhuachaillí!
24th August at 7pm: Na Mistéalaigh v AdeS (as baile).
There will be no semi-finals or finals in this GoGamesseries.

CAID FAOI 13
: (a) A good victory over Ardfert on Wednesday evening, in Division 1 of the Central League, earned our A team a home semi-final against Na Gaeil. The semi-final was played on Sunday evening last and produced a wonderful game of caid. Our gallant boys played with every ounce of energy in their bodies; they gave of their best and left everything on the pitch but, however, ochón agus mo bhrón, it was the green Gaeil gang that edged it in a titanic tussle…by a mere 0-3. Yes, it went right to the wire, the visitors ultimately held out and, sadly for our lads, advanced to the final. Final score: 0-9 to 0-6. Despite playing against the wind, the Stack Club boys made the running in the first period. Na Gaeil could find no way through a resolute and determined defence. Up front, the home team got in for some lovely worked scores and had the visitors in trouble on many occasions. Indeed, it took Na Gaeil ‘til the last kick of the half to open their account. The score at half time was 0-4 to 0-1 in favour of The Rock. Bhí go maith is ní raibh go holc! The Black‘n’Amber boys came out after the break with every intention of driving home their advantage but were unfortunate in the opening stages of the second half in not putting clear daylight between themselves and Na Gaeil. They were left to rue missed opportunities as Na Gaeil hit a purple patch and scored eight points in a ten minute spell. Credit to The Rock boys, though! They fought back and got two points of their own which left one kick between the teams in the closing minutes. Ultimately, Na Gaeil held out to secure victory. Thanks to the referee; congratulations to Na Gaeil; we wish them the best of luck in the final. Well done, boys, for giving a brilliant brave battling performance with a never-say-die Rock attitude. Our defensive display, particularly in the first half, was one of the finest ever seen in Connolly Park.
(b) Our Bs await word of their trip to play Milltown/Castlemaine in the Division 6 semi-final. The date and time have yet to be confirmed. (c) Eclipse Kenmare: the team bonding trip took place on Bank Holiday Monday (7ú Lúnasa). Twenty four of our U13 boys set off early on Monday morning for a fun-packed day tackling the Goliath Garden Assault Course. What a day of fun and frolic! Thanks to Ned O’Shea & Sons and to John Lane & Sons whose generous support made the trip possible. (Dan Ahern)

PEIL FAOI 15: (a) Training continued on Wednesday and on Friday. (b) We travelled to Kenmare for a fun-filled outdoor challenge day at the Eclipse Centre on Bank Holiday Monday (7th). Many thanks to Ned O’Shea & Sons and to John Lane & Sons, our club juvenile-section sponsors, for their continued support. (c) We are currently running two fundraisers for our U15 teams. Firstly, we request/encourage the boys to take sponsorship/raffle cards and to ‘sell’ lines; great prizes will be on offer….never venture, never win! Secondly, we will hold a table quiz this Friday (11thAugust) at 7.30pm at the Austin Stack Club….€40 for a table of 4; it is expected to be a great social evening and we’ll have lots of spot prizes. We are hoping/requesting/asking that everybody will support these efforts to gather much needed revenue for the benefit of our youngsters! Our young, enthusiastic and very talented boys deserve our best efforts! (c) Training has been scheduled for Wednesday eveningand will continue over the weekend in preparation for the next competitive fixtures….watch out for the group messages for details. So, boys, we’re back to the grindstone….ar ais ag traenáil, ag obair ar na scileanna, ag imirt cluichí agus, le cúnamh Dé, ag buachan cluichí. Ar aghaidh linn….with confidence and steely determination….in true Rock fashion! (Ger Hobbert)

PEIL FAOI 17: Comhghairdeachas to our minors who performed brilliantly v Seamróga Néidín in the quarter final of the Minor County Championship on Monday last i bhFosadh Uí Chlúmháin. Scór….AdeS: 5-14; Seamróga Neidín: 1-7. Panel: Gavin Ó Cathasaigh, Thomas Deregee, Rory Ó Loinsigh, Fionnán Ó Riain, Cormac Bastible, Jake O’Connor; Alex Tuohy, David Lucid, Stephen Conway, James Fisher, Donnacha Horgan, Ciarán Kavanagh, Seán Heaslip, Pádraig O’Halloran, Paddy Lane, Daniel Kirby, Ben Murphy, Ronan Carroll, Ryan O’Driscoll, Seán Óg Ó Brosnacháin.

CLUB SHOP: For club gear go to www.oneills.com

FOSSA/FOSADH: We all know from where David Clifford comes…Fosadh (Fossa)…but do we know what the name might mean? Fosadh: a stopping-place; a resting-place; an abode; a stable position; steadiness; stability; a flat surface; a level place. Take your pick!

CLUB LOTTO: Try to support the businesses of our lotto-sellers: (i) Commane’s Bookshop (PC Books), The Rock, (ii) O’Flynn Interiors, The Rock, (iii) Hussey’s Deli and Newsagency, Prince’s Quay, (iv) The Burger Shack, Monavalley. (v) Kirby’s Brogue Inn, The Rock, (iv)Siopa de Barra, An Charraig.

CIARRAÍ: Best wishes to Mná Chiarraí, including Aoife Ní Dhuilleáin, v The Dubs in Sunday’s final!

AN CHARRAIG: Best wishes to our club seniors v Baile Uí Dhonnchú in their Intermediate first round game. Tosach maith….leath na hoibre!
