ALL-STARS: The rain threatened proceedings from the get-go on Sunday morning last but we were 15 strong on the field and the All-Stars of The Rock were ready to give it their all! We began with a warm up….high knees, walking and jumping jacks….to get everyone moving. That was followed by social games, such as Simon Says, (led by the coaches) to help with listening, watching and imitating skills. The kids were excellent and we will have to increase the difficulty level next week! Next on the agenda….football skills with Head Coach Richie. It was very apparent today that every child is making fabulous progress in this area. The rain began to fall but that didn’t dampen the players’ spirits…lots and lots of laughing could be heard on the field. Before the downpour, we had one run around the obstacle course; the kids really enjoyed themselves and were still giving it 110% right to the end. Well done, everybody! Parents/Guardians, feel free to bring your youngster along to The Rock, Connolly Park, on Sunday next (2th July). (Cathal Ó Sé)

As further preparation for our upcoming important competitive matches we’ll play challenge games with Cork’s Ballincollig on Sunday next (2nd July) in Connolly Park at 12.30pm. Good luck, boys! (ii) Town League (Division 3) matches for the B team recommenced last Sunday (25th June) in Connolly Park where we challenged the John Mitchel Club U13s.
Ed O’Regan describes the action: An scór….AdeS B: 2-11; Na Mistéalaigh B: 0-7.Our lads were back in Town League action on Sunday night last against our Ballyseedy friends and football rivals, Yes, it was the third meeting of the year between ourselves and the John Mitchel Club boys and, for a third time, our lads came out on top after a tough battle. The first half was a tight cagey affair and scores were hard to come by. We were playing against a strong breeze but, despite that disadvantage, we had plenty of possession. However, all too often we ran into contact or misplaced a pass under pressure and didn’t get our free-flowing football going i gceart. A good save was needed from our ‘keeper just before half-time to keep us in front by the smallest of margins….0-4 to 0-3 at the break. We settled ourselves at half-time and came out a much better side in the second half; we had the breeze at our backs. Some good free-flowing moves by our side got the scoreboard moving and we had a 0-9 to 0-3 lead with only 10 minutes of the second half played. We had a number of attempts on goal….hitting the post, last minute blocks and, just when it seemed that it was going to be one of those nights, we hit the back of the net to extend our lead by 0-8….1-9 to 0-4. The goal gave our Rock lads great confidence and we went on to pick off some further good scores while the defence restricted the Mistéalaigh to some well-taken points. The final whistle blew proclaiming a fine victory ten-point for the home side…..2-11 to 0-07. Maith sibh, a gharsúna! Thanks to the Mistéalaigh team and management for a good sporting game; there is probably another instalment in this series before the end of the summer! ‘Well done’ to our Rockites for putting in an excellent 2nd half performance and for digging out another satisfying victory.
