Junior Town League
Kerins O’Rahillys 0-14; Austin Stacks 0-5.
We lost this round 5 game of the Town League, played in Strand Road this Tuesday evening (26th July). We had a good start and lead by 0-3 to 0-2 after 10m. Strand Road were first off the mark with a pointed free after two minutes. Our first score came a minute later when a perfectly taken free by corner back, Padraig Lynch found Ciarán O’Connell who linked with Dale Counihan and St. John Hegarty and St. John put over a beauty. Rahillys went ahead again with a point from play in the 5th minute and then in the 9th minute Seamus Bastible put over another long-ranged effort followed a minute later by another by wing back Ronan Shanahan. Ronan was on target again in the 23rd minute but the opposition converted four frees in that period to lead by 0-6 to 0-4 at half time. Rahillys totally dominated the second half, adding a further eight points to just one pointed free for us by Pa Fitzgibbon in the 48th minute. The margin could have been more but for two brilliant saves by Barry Galvin, the first in the 22nd minute and the second a penalty save in the 36th minute. Team: Barry Galvin, Des Fitzgerald, Denis O’Neill, Pádraig Lynch, Tommy Costello, John Dennis, Ronan Shanahan (Capt) (0-2), Sean Purcell, Seamus Bastible (0-1), Padraig Breen, Sean Power, St. John Hegarty (0-1), Dale Counihan, Ciarán O’Connell, Paddy Fitzgibbon (0-1 free). Subs: Alan Crean (23m), Eoin Colgan (24m), Trevor Barrett (ht), Jonathan Conway (43m).
